Supernova pointing with low- and high-energy neutrino detectors

A future galactic SN can be located several hours before the optical explosion through the MeV-neutrino burst, exploiting the directionality of $nu$-$e$-scattering in a water Cherenkov detector such as Super-Kamiokande. We study the statistical efficiency of different methods for extracting the SN direction and identify a simple approach that is nearly optimal, yet independent of the exact SN neutrino spectra. [...]

Earth matter effects on the supernova neutrino spectra

We explore the earth matter effects on the energy spectra of neutrinos from a supernova. We show that the observations of the energy spectra of $\nu_e$ and $\bar{\nu}_e$ from a galactic supernova may enable us to identify the solar neutrino solution, to determine the sign of $\Delta m^2_{32}$, and to probe the mixing matrix element $|U_{e3}|^2$ to values as low as $10^{-3}$. The CKM phase $\alpha$ through $B \to a_{0}\pi$

We propose the decay modes $B \to a_0 (\to \eta \pi) \pi$ to determine the CKM phase $\alpha$. One can analyze these modes through (i) the $B \to a_0 \pi$ isospin pentagon, (ii) the time dependent Dalitz plot of $B^0(t) \to a_0^{\pm} \pi^{\mp} \to \eta \pi^+ \pi^-$, and (iii) the time dependence of $B^0(t) \to a_0^0 (\to \eta \pi^0) \pi^0$. Resolving ambiguities in the neutrino mass-flavour spectrum from supernova neutrinos

We analyze the neutrino conversions inside a supernova in the 3$\nu$ mixing scheme, and their effects on the neutrino spectra observed at the earth. We find that the observations of the energy spectra of neutrinos from a future galactic supernova may enable us to identify the solar neutrino solution, to determine the sign of $\Delta m^2_{32}$, and to probe the mixing matrix element |U_{e3}|^2 to values as low as 10^{-4}-10^{-3}..
