The β decay of the N=Z nucleus $^{72}$Kr has been studied with the total absorption spectroscopy technique at ISOLDE (CERN). A total B(GT)=0.79(4)$g_{A}^{2}/$4π has been found up to an excitation energy of 2.7 MeV. [...]

Normal and intruder configurations in $^{34}$Si populated in the $\beta^-$ decay of $^{34}$Mg and $^{34}$Al

The structure of $^{34}$Si was studied through $\gamma$ spectroscopy separately in the $\beta^-$ decays of $^{34}$Mg and $^{34}$Al at the ISOLDE facility of CERN. Different configurations in $^{34}$Si were populated independently from the two recently identified $\beta$-decaying states in $^{34}$Al having spin-parity assignments $J^\pi = 4^-$ dominated by the normal configuration $\pi (d_{5/2})^{-1} \otimes \nu (f_{7/2})$ and $J^\pi = 1^+$ by the intruder configuration $\pi (d_{5/2})^{-1} \otimes \nu (d_{3/2})^{-1}(f_{7/2})^{2}$. Properties of intruder states in $^{34}$Al and $^{34}$Si

We report on two experimental results for nuclei located in the region of the N = 20 island of inversion. In the first experiment, performed at GANIL, we have discovered and studied the $0_{2}^{ + }$ state in $^{34}$Si and made the hypothesis that it was fed by the beta-decay of a predicted isomeric $1^{+}$ state in $^{34}$Al. Two experiments were performed at the Tandem accelerator of the Horia Hulubei National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering, IFIN-HH with the purpose to investigate the possibility to use alpha-induced reactions for the calculation of neutron inelastic cross sections based on the Bohr hypothesis of the compound nucleus. A first experiment compared the gamma production cross sections excited in the $^{25}$Mg($\alpha, n\gamma$ )$^{28}$Si and the $^{28}Si(n, n′\gamma)^{28}$Si reactions. [...]
