Performance of Transverse Beam Splitting and Extraction at the CERN Proton Synchrotron in the Framework of Multi-turn Extraction / Sterbini, Guido (CERN) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Damjanovic, Sanja (CERN) ; Gilardoni, Simone (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Hernalsteens, Cédric (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Hourican, Michael (CERN) ; Huschauer, Alexander (CERN ; TU Vienna) ; Kahle, Karsten (CERN) ; Le Godec, Gilles (CERN) et al.
Considerable progress has been made in 2015 in the setting up of the multi-turn extraction (MTE) in the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS). A key ingredient in this novel extraction technique is the beam splitting in transverse phase space. [...]

Transverse beam splitting made operational: Recent progress of the multi-turn extraction at the CERN proton synchrotron / Huschauer, Alexander (CERN) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Damjanovic, Sanja (CERN) ; Gilardoni, Simone (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Hourican, Michael (CERN) ; Kahle, Karsten (CERN) ; Michels, Olivier (CERN) ; Sterbini, Guido (CERN) ; Hernalsteens, Cedric (CERN ; IBA, Louvain-la-Neuve) et al.
Following a successful commissioning period, the Multi-Turn Extraction (MTE) at the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS) has been applied for the fixed-target physics programme at the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) since September 2015. This exceptional extraction technique was proposed to replace the long-serving Continuous Transfer (CT) extraction, which has the drawback of inducing high activation in the ring. [...]

The LHC Injectors Upgrade project (LIU) has been initiated to improve the performances of the existing injector complex at CERN to match the future requirements of the HL-LHC. In this framework, the Proton Synchrotron (PS) will undergo fundamental changes for many of its main systems: the injection energy will be increased to reduce space-charge effects, the transverse damper will be improved to cope with transverse instabilities the RF systems will be upgraded to accelerate higher beam intensity and brightness.
