A dimensions aware evaluator for High Energy Physics applications / Couturier, Ben (CERN) ; Clemencic, Marco (CERN)
The LHCb software stack is developed in C++ and uses the Gaudi framework for event processing and DD4hep for the detector description. Numerical computations are done either directly in the C++ code or by an evaluator used to process the expressions embedded in the XML describing the detector geometry. [...]

Facilitating the preservation of LHCb Analyses with APD / Burr, Chris (CERN) ; Couturier, Ben (CERN) ; O’Neil, Ryunosuke (Edinburgh U.)
High Energy Physics experiments at the Large Hadron Collider generate petabytes of data per year that go through multiple transformations before final analysis and paper publication. Recording the provenance of these data is therefore crucial to maintain the quality of the final results. [...]

Lepton Flavour Universality and Analysis Frameworks / Couturier, Ben
This thesis investigates Lepton Flavour Universality (LFU), the property of the Standard model of particle physics that the electroweak force couples to all three generations of the charged leptons with the same strength [...]

The Phoenix event display framework / Moyse, Edward (Massachusetts U., Amherst) ; Ali, Fawad (Pittsburgh U.) ; Cortina, Emilio (Pittsburgh U.) ; Bianchi, Riccardo Maria (Pittsburgh U.) ; Couturier, Ben (CERN)
Visualising HEP experiment event data and geometry is vital for physicists trying to debug their reconstruction software, their detector geometry or their physics analysis, and also for outreach and publicity purposes. Traditionally experiments used in-house applications that required installation (often as part of a much larger experiment specific framework). [...]

Modularization of the LHCb software environment and preparation for heterogeneous resources / Clemencic, Marco (CERN) ; Couturier, Ben (CERN)
LHCb software runs in very different computing environments: the trigger farm at CERN, on the LHC Computing Grid (LCG), on shared clusters or on software developer’s desktops. . [...]

A gateway between GitLab CI and DIRAC / Burr, Chris (CERN) ; Couturier, Ben (CERN)
GitLab’s Continuous Integration has proven to be an efficient tool to manage the lifecycle of experimental software. This has sparked interest in uses that exceed simple unit tests, and therefore require more resources, such as production data configuration and physics data analysis. [...]

U., Dortmund (main) ; CERN) ; Nolte, Niklas (CERN ; Tech. U., Dortmund (main)) ; Ponce, Sebastien (CERN) /LHCb Collaboration
Starting with Upgrade 1 in 2021, LHCb will move to a purely software-based trigger system. Therefore, the new trigger strategy is to process events at the full rate of 30MHz. [...]

Perspectives for the migration of the LHCb geometry to the DD4hep toolkit / Borghi, Silvia (U. Manchester (main)) ; Burr, Chris (U. Manchester (main)) ; Clemencic, Marco (CERN) ; Corti, Gloria (CERN) ; Couturier, Ben (CERN) ; Frank, Markus (CERN) ; Grillo, Lucia (U. Manchester (main)) ; Muller, Dominik (CERN)
The LHCb experiment uses a custom made C++ detector and geometry description toolkit, integrated with the Gaudi framework, designed when the LHCb software was first implemented. With the LHCb upgrade scheduled for 2021, it is necessary for the experiment to review this choice and adapt to the evolution of software and computing (in terms of e.g multi-threading support or vectorization) The Detector Description Toolkit for High Energy Physics (DD4hep) is a good candidate for the replacement for LHCb’s geometry description framework: it is possible to integrate it with the LHCb core software framework and its features theoretically match the requirements: in terms of geometry and detector description but also concerning the possibility to add detector alignment parameters and the integration with simulation tools.
