Status of Beam Instrumentation at the Electron Beam Test Stand at CERN
/ Sameed, Muhammed (CERN) ; Ady, Marton (CERN) ; Burger, Stephane (CERN) ; Cenede, Jean (CERN) ; Churchman, Ashley (CERN) ; Coiffet, Thibaut (CERN) ; Devauchelle, Wilfried (CERN) ; Forck, Peter (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Ganesh, Abhishek (CERN) ; Guillot-Vignot, Franck (CERN) et al.
An electron beam test stand has been designed and constructed at CERN as part of the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project, in collaboration with the ARIES project, to test components related to the Hollow Electron Lens (HL-LHC) and the GSI Space Charge Compensation Electron Lens (ARIES). This comprehensive test facility incorporates normal conducting solenoid magnets, including horizontal and vertical correctors, which generate fields of fractional Tesla magnitude. [...]

SPS Fast Spill Monitor Characterisation and Evaluation Throughout 2023
/ Benitez Berrocal, Sara (CERN) ; Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Burger, Stephane (CERN) ; Goldblatt, Aurelie Noelle (CERN) ; Martin Nieto, Miguel (CERN) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN)
Monitoring the intensity of protons extracted from the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron )SPS) ring towards the North Area (NA) facility at a high rate is of utmost importance, with increasing challenges, for the the current facility operation, the ongoing NA consolidation, and the future Physics Beyond Colliders (PBC) projects. Various instruments are being developed to measure beam current fluctuations across a broad range of frequencies, from a few hundred Hz to several hundred MHz. [...]

Laboratory realization of relativistic pair-plasma beams
/ Arrowsmith, C.D. (Oxford U.) ; Simon, P. (CERN ; Darmstadt, GSI) ; Bilbao, P.J. (Lisbon, IST) ; Bott, A.F. A. (Oxford U.) ; Burger, S. (CERN) ; Chen, H. (LLNL, Livermore) ; Cruz, F.D. (Lisbon, IST) ; Davenne, T. (Rutherford) ; Efthymiopoulos, I. (CERN) ; Froula, D.H. (Rochester U.) et al.
Relativistic electron-positron plasmas are ubiquitous in extreme astrophysical environments such as black holes and neutron star magnetospheres, where accretion-powered jets and pulsar winds are expected to be enriched with such pair plasmas. Their behaviour is quite different from typical electron-ion plasmas due to the matter-antimatter symmetry of the charged components and their role in the dynamics of such compact objects is believed to be fundamental. A Generic Real-Time Software in C++ for Digital Camera-Based Acquisition Systems at CERN
/ Topaloudis, Athanasios (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Burger, Stephane (CERN) ; Jackson, Stephen (CERN) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) ; Poimenidou, Eirini (CERN) ; Senes, Eugenio (CERN)
Until recently, most of CERN’s beam visualisation systems have been based on increasingly obsolescent analogue cameras. Hence, there is an on-going campaign to replace old or install new digital equivalents. [...]

Review of CERN beam instrumentation for fixed target experiments
/ Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Burger, Stephane (CERN) ; Guerrero, Ana (CERN) ; Lefevre, Thibaut (CERN) ; Levens, Thomas (CERN) ; Topaloudis, Athanasios (CERN) ; Trad, Georges (CERN) ; Velotti, Francesco (CERN)
Measuring beam parameters in the vicinity of fixed target experiments or interceptive devices like beam dumps is essential to ensure efficient fixed target physics and safe beam operation. At the same time the beam diagnostic reach is very often challenging in terms of robustness and performance. [...]

Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Beam Distribution Imaging Using a Single Multimode Fiber at CERN
/ Trad, Georges (CERN) ; Burger, Stephane (CERN)
In the framework of developing radiation tolerant imaging detectors for transverse beam diagnostics, the use of machine learning powered imaging using optical fibers is explored for the first time at CERN. This paper presents the pioneering work of using neural networks to reconstruct the scintillating screen beam image transported from a harsh radioactive environment over a single, large-core, multimode, optical fiber. New CERN SPS Beam Dump Imaging System
/ Burger, Stephane (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Topaloudis, Athanasios (CERN) ; Velotti, Francesco (CERN) ; Veyrunes, Eric (CERN)
As part of the LHC injector Upgrade (LIU), the CERN SPS is now equipped with a new Beam Dumping System (SBDS) designed to cope with the high power beams foreseen for the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) era. Before reaching the dump, the proton beam (from 26 to 450 GeV) is vertically kicked and then diluted passing through a series of horizontal and vertical bumps. [...]
