Optical excitation of ultra-relativistic partially stripped ions / Bieroń, Jacek (Jagiellonian U.) ; Krasny, Mieczyslaw Witold (Paris U., VI-VII ; CERN) ; Placzek, Wieslaw (Jagiellonian U.) ; Pustelny, Szymon (Jagiellonian U.)
The Gamma Factory (GF) initiative aims at the construction of a unique experimental tool exploiting resonant interaction of light with ultra-relativistic partially stripped ions (PSI) stored in circular accelerators at CERN. Resonant excitation of high-energy electronic transitions in the ions is achieved through Doppler-boosting (by twice the Lorentz factor; from hundred to several thousand times) of light energy. [...]

Gamma Factory for CERN initiative - progress report / Dutheil, Yann (CERN) ; Abramov, Andrey (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Alden, Siobhan (Royal Holloway, U. of London) ; Alemany Fernandez, Reyes (CERN) ; Antsiferov, Pavel (Troitsk, IZMIRAN) ; Apyan, Armen (NAS Armenia, Yerevan) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Bessonov, Evgeny (Lebedev Inst.) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Bieron, Jacek (Jagiellonian U.) et al.
The Gamma Factory (GF) initiative proposes to use partially stripped ion (PSI) beams as drivers of a new type of high-intensity and high-energy (0.1–400 MeV) photon source. As part of the ongoing Physics Beyond Collider studies, initial beam tests were carried out in 2017 and 2018 at the SPS and LHC with partially stripped xenon and lead beams [...]

Structural trends in atomic nuclei from laser spectroscopy of tin / Yordanov, Deyan T. (Orsay, IPN ; CERN) ; Rodríguez, Liss V. (Orsay, IPN ; Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Balabanski, Dimiter L. (ELI-NP, Bucharest) ; Bieroń, Jacek (Jagiellonian U.) ; Bissell, Mark L. (Manchester U.) ; Blaum, Klaus (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Cheal, Bradley (Liverpool U.) ; Ekman, Jörgen (Malmo U.) ; Gaigalas, Gediminas (Vilnius U.) ; Garcia Ruiz, Ronald F. (CERN ; MIT) et al.
Tin is the chemical element with the largest number of stable isotopes. Its complete proton shell, comparable with the closed electron shells in the chemically inert noble gases, is not a mere precursor to extended stability; since the protons carry the nuclear charge, their spatial arrangement also drives the nuclear electromagnetism [...]

The CERN Gamma Factory Initiative: An Ultra-High Intensity Gamma Source / Krasny, Mieczyslaw (Paris U., VI-VII ; CERN) ; Alemany-Fernández, Reyes (CERN) ; Antsifarov, P (Troitsk, Inst. Spectroscopy) ; Apyan, Armen (Yerevan Phys. Inst.) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Bessonov, Evgeny (Lebedev Phys. Inst., Moscow) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Bieron, Jacek (Jagiellonian U.) ; Budker, Dmitry (Helmholtz Inst., Mainz) ; Cassou, Kevin (Orsay, LAL) et al.
This contribution discusses the possibility of broadening the present CERN research programme making use of a novel concept of light source. The proposed, Partially Stripped Ion beam driven, light source is the backbone of the Gamma Factory (GF) initiative. [...]

Collinear laser spectroscopy of atomic cadmium / Frömmgen, Nadja (Mainz U., Inst. Kernchem.) ; Balabanski, Dimiter L. (Bucharest, IFIN-HH) ; Bissell, Mark L. (Leuven U.) ; Bieroń, Jacek (Jagiellonian U.) ; Blaum, Klaus (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Cheal, Bradley (Liverpool U.) ; Flanagan, Kieran (Manchester U.) ; Fritzsche, Stephan (Helmholtz Inst., Jena ; Jena U.) ; Geppert, Christopher (Mainz U., Inst. Kernchem. ; Darmstadt, Tech. U.) ; Hammen, Michael (Mainz U., Inst. Kernchem.) et al.
Hyperfine structure $A$ and $B$ factors of the atomic $5s\,5p\,\; ^3\rm{P}_2 \rightarrow 5s\,6s\,\; ^3\rm{S}_1$ transition are determined from collinear laser spectroscopy data of $^{107-123}$Cd and $^{111m-123m}$Cd. Nuclear magnetic moments and electric quadrupole moments are extracted using reference dipole moments and calculated electric field gradients, respectively. [...]
