/ Bett, D.R. (JAI, UK ; CERN) ; Blaskovic Kraljevic, N. (JAI, UK ; Lund U., MAX-lab) ; Bromwich, T. (JAI, UK ; Edinburgh U.) ; Burrows, P.N. (JAI, UK) ; Christian, G.B. (JAI, UK ; Diamond Light Source) ; Perry, C. (JAI, UK) ; Ramjiawan, R. (JAI, UK ; CERN)
We report the design, operation and performance of a high-resolution, low-latency, bunch-by-bunch feedback system for nano-beam stabilisation. The system employs novel, ultra-low quality-factor cavity beam position monitors (BPMs), a two-stage analogue signal down-mixing system, and a digital signal processing and feedback board incorporating an FPGA. Signal Processing Architecture for the HL-LHC Interaction Region BPMs
/ Bett, Douglas R (Oxford U.) ; Boccardi, Andrea (CERN) ; Degl'Innocenti, Irene (CERN) ; Krupa, Michal (CERN)
In the HL-LHC era, the Interaction Regions around the ATLAS and CMS experiments will be equipped with 24 new Beam Position Monitors (BPM) measuring both counter-propagating beams in a common vacuum chamber. Numerical simulations proved that, despite using new high-directivity stripline BPMs, the required measurement accuracy cannot be guaranteed without bunch-by-bunch disentanglement of the signals induced by both beams. A Sub-Micron Resolution, Bunch-by-Bunch Beam Trajectory Feedback System and Its Application to Reducing Wakefield Effects in Single-Pass Beamlines
/ Bett, Douglas R (Oxford U.) ; Burrows, Philip N (Oxford U.) ; Kubo, Kiyoshi (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Okugi, Toshiyuki (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Perry, Colin (Oxford U.) ; Ramjiawan, Rebecca (Oxford U.) ; Terunuma, Nobuhiro (KEK, Tsukuba)
A high-precision intra-bunch-train beam orbit feedback correction system has been developed and tested at the KEK Accelerator Test Facility, ATF2. The system uses the vertical position of the bunch measured at two beam position monitors to calculate a pair of kicks which are applied to the next bunch using two upstream kickers, thereby correcting both the vertical position and trajectory angle. [...]

The high luminosity requirement for a future linear collider sets a demanding limit on the beam quality at the Interaction Point (IP). One potential source of luminosity loss is the motion of the ground itself. [...]

The FONT5 Bunch-by-Bunch Position and Angle Feedback System at ATF2
/ Apsimon, R J (Oxford U., JAI) ; Bett, D R (Oxford U., JAI) ; Burrows, P N (Oxford U., JAI) ; Christian, G B (Oxford U., JAI) ; Constance, B (Oxford U., JAI ; CERN) ; Davis, M R (Oxford U., JAI) ; Gerbershagen, A (Oxford U., JAI ; CERN) ; Perry, C (Oxford U., JAI) ; Resta-Lopez, J (Valencia U., IFIC)
The FONT5 upstream beam-based feedback system at ATF2 is designed to correct the position and angle jitter at the entrance to the ATF2 final-focus system, and also to demonstrate a prototype intra-train feedback system for the International Linear Collider interaction point. We discuss the hardware, from stripline BPMs to kickers, and RF and digital signal processing, as well as presenting results from the latest beam tests at ATF2..

Study of Transverse Pulse-to-Pulse Orbit Jitter at the KEK Accelerator Test Facility 2 (ATF2)
/ Resta-Lopez, J (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Alabau-Gonzalvo, J (Valencia U., IFIC) ; Bett, D R (Oxford U., JAI) ; Burrows, P N (Oxford U., JAI) ; Christian, G B (Oxford U., JAI) ; Davis, M R (Oxford U., JAI) ; Perry, C (Oxford U., JAI) ; Apsimon, R (CERN) ; Constance, B (CERN) ; Gerbershagen, A (CERN)
For future linear colliders the precise control and mitigation of pulse-to-pulse orbit jitter will be very important to achieve the required luminosity. Diagnostic techniques for the orbit jitter measurement and correction for multibunch operation are being addressed at the KEK Accelerator Test Facility 2 (ATF2) [...]
