First operational experience of the upgraded cryogenic infrastructure of the vertical magnet test facility in the SM18 hall, including HFM and cluster D test stations. / Benda, V (CERN) ; Lees, A (CERN) ; Pirotte, O (CERN) ; Craen, A Vande (CERN) ; Pezzetti, M (CERN) ; Lamboy, J P (CERN) ; Lefebvre, V (CERN) ; Bajko, M (CERN) ; Giloux, C (CERN)
As part of the R&D; program for HL-LHC, the future upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the vertical magnet test facility in the SM18 cryogenic test hall at CERN has seen significant development. Since the installation of HFM and Cluster D cryogenic test stations in 2017, the facility is comprised of five vertical test cryostats of various sizes operating at either 1.9 K or 4.2 K. [...]

Thermal performance of the new superfluid helium vertical test cryostats for magnet tests at CERN / Vande Craen, Arnaud (CERN) ; Bajko, M (CERN) ; Benda, V (CERN) ; Deschamps, J-B (CERN) ; Giloux, C (CERN) ; Lees, A (CERN) ; Parma, V (CERN) ; Pasdeloup, F (CERN) ; Pirotte, O (CERN)
In the frame of the R&D; program of the HL-LHC, the upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), CERN augmented its test facility with two new large-scale vertical test stations for superconducting magnet testing. The cryostats composing the core of these test stations share design features but are of different dimensions: one allows testing magnets up to 1.5 m diameter, 2.5 m long for a maximum weight of 15 t, while the other can accommodate magnets up to 0.9 m diameter, and 5.5 m long for a maximum weight of 18 t. Long term experience with the “industrial” 3He vapour-pressure thermometer / Benda, V (CERN) ; Vafeiadis, T (CERN)
On the basis of very good experience with a prototype of a 3He vapour-pressure thermometer installed in the magnet feed box (MFB – prototype of LHC magnet test bench), an upgraded version of this thermometer was developed with emphasis on the improvement of its long term stability, reliability and "series" production. The thermometer is working typically around 1.9 K. [...]

Upgrade of the CERN Superconducting Magnet Test Facility / Bajko, Marta (CERN) ; Benda, Vladislav (CERN) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Broche, Alexandre Joel (CERN) ; Formenti, Fabio (CERN) ; Giannelli, Sebastiano (CERN) ; Giloux, Christian (CERN) ; Kosmicki, Antoine (CERN) ; Goncalves Perez, Consuelo (CERN) ; Perez-Duenas, E (CERN) et al.
Abstract: The superconducting magnet test facility at CERN has hosted the series test of the majority of the LHC magnets. The facility has evolved, and is presently divided in two main areas: a vertical test facility, equipped with three vertical cryostats, and a horizontal test facility, with ten feedboxes for test of cryostated magnets in horizontal position. A new cryogenic test facility for large superconducting devices at CERN / Perin, A (CERN) ; Derking, J H (CERN) ; Serio, L (CERN) ; Stewart, L (CERN) ; Benda, V (CERN) ; Bremer, J (CERN) ; Pirotte, O (CERN)
To expand CERN testing capability to superconducting devices that cannot be installed in existing test facilities because of their size and/or mass, CERN is building a new cryogenic test facility for large and heavy devices. The first devices to be tested in the facility will be the S-FRS superconducting magnets for the FAIR project that is currently under construction at the GSI Research Center in Darmstadt, Germany. Study for cryogenic testing the Super-FRS magnets of FAIR in a new test facility at CERN / Derking, J H (CERN) ; Perin, A (CERN) ; Benda, V (CERN) ; Pirotte, O (CERN)
The Super-FRS magnets of the international Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) being built at GSI in Germany will be tested at a new cryogenic test facility currently under construction at CERN. During nominal operation the magnets will be cooled with liquid helium to 4.5 K. [...]
