The real Copacabana is in Bolivia

The Real Copacabana

It wasn’t until we visited Bolivia that we found out that the original Copacabana is actually here!

When we hear the word “Copacabana” we automatically think of Brazil, right? Turns out that the famous Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro takes its name from this town in Bolivia.

Copacabana means “View of the lake” in Aymara, deriving from the local “kota kawana”. As the beach in Rio has a similar shape to this one in Bolivia (half moon) they ended up calling it by the same name.

Who would have thought, right? I bet all those babes in tiny bikinis getting baked in Rio do not know this!…
