Foil Embossing: tin foil and Sharpies

Here's this year's version of the very popular tin foil embossing project!
See all the steps and previous projects posted HERE and HERE.

Draw a simple design on the back of a cereal box. I encourage abstract designs (organic or geometric) but many students like to do some simple realistic images like simple landscapes.
Cut lengths of yarn and glue down using white glue. Let dry overnight.

Cut a piece of heavy duty/barbeque foil one inch larger than the cereal box.

Cover the yarn side with a liberal amount of glue stick. Place the foil on top, and start burnishing it using a piece of felt. This helps prevent tears. Work from the center outwards, to prevent air bubbles.

Wrap and glue the excess onto the back. You can also test Sharpie colours on the back,

Colour all the sections using coloured permanent markers.

Patterned Gecko art project

These cute and colourful geckos were made by Grade 4-6 students.
I demonstrated on my easel how to draw one.

Then students got to work on 11 x 17" copy paper (tabloid size).

Then they drew sections throughout the body.

Within each section, they drew a pattern and outlined everything using black marker.

Then they coloured them with markers

The last step was to bubble cut around them, leaving a thin white border.
So cute!

Chalk Pastel Easter Eggs

Here's a messy but fun Easter themed project that my Grade 4-6 students recently finished.
I showed them how to draw and shade an egg using chalk pastels.
I've posted this lesson previously HERE, where I normally use clear glue.
This time, to save time, we used black oil pastels for the drawing step.

Students started by doing a quick practice sketch planning out their patterns.

Then they drew it on large 12 x 18" black construction paper and outlined all the
pencil lines with a black oil pastel.

Then I showed them how to use a white chalk pastel to add the highlight down the center first.

Then they continued colouring the eggs and blending gently with their fingers.

This is what they completed by the end of an 80 minute period.

The next class, they tackled the grass and the sky.

Some Grade 4,5,6 finished artworks!
