Dubai Fountain - A Vlog!!!

A deserted port few decades back, Dubai has now turned into one of the luxury travel destinations in the world, for the entertainment and shopping it offers. Dubai wants everything to be huge and lux, so is the Dubai Fountain. World's second largest choreographed fountain, on the Burj Khalifa lake is a must visit place in Dubai. You can connect your visit to Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall, with an evening dedicated to Dubai Fountain, to enjoy its magnificent show.
Here is the video of the Dubai Fountain shot by hubby during its inauguration back in 2009.

Skywatch - Emirates Group Building!!!

Hubby was placed at Emirates Airlines Dubai from 2005 to 2010 and was lucky enough to work at the Emirates Airlines Headquarters, one of the best corporate buildings of the world and got to be part of many air shows and witness them so close.
Emirates Airlines Head Quarter Building opened in 2007 is just in front of Dubai Airport and the building in itself is worth a visit. The Airline has its own dedicated terminal in Dubai International Airport and has a tunnel connecting the terminal and Head quarter Building for its staff. They have their Metro station too, which connects the station directly to building.

The Metro train in between Airport Station and Emirates Headquarter station.
Yet another advantage of working at this building for hubby was the view of aircraft's during air shows at office comfort. Below is the pic of Airbus A380 the world's largest passenger aircraft at one of the airshows. Behind it is Emirates airship hangar, the place to park and service the aircraft.

Yet another view of the mega flight clicked at one of the airshows.
Happy Skywatching!!!

An Artist Playing Harp @Dubai Mall...

When I saw this artist playing Harp at Dubai Mall, I was just not mesmerized by the music, but introduced to a completely new instrument, which was even taller than the artist herself. A string instrument which was no where similar to common string instruments like guitar, violin, veena or sitar.
When I searched for Harp on net, it initially connected me to European string instruments, but further through, it showed evidence of Tamil Sangam literature and Samudragupta connecting it to Indian history.
As per wikipedia,
It has a number of individual strings running at an angle to its soundboard, which are plucked with the fingers. They vary globally in many ways. In terms of size, many smaller harps can be played on the lap, whereas larger harps are quite heavy and rest on the floor. Different harps may use strings of catgut or nylon, or of metal, or some combination.

The show was at the indoor fountain of the Dubai Mall, which is one of the main attractions of the mall. Check out more on this instrument here.

Drive Through Car Wash in Dubai...

The main difference between developing and developed countries is the use of man power and machine power. One such thing is automated drive through car washing machines. While we in India blame our car washer for not turning up in the morning for washing our car, Dubai offers automatic drive through car washing services.

You drive through the machine and the car goes through the splash of water and cleaning solution. Fast rotating vertical and horizontal scrubbers clean the car exterior. The car is then rinsed with a splash of fresh water and moves through dryer, which drys the water droplets on the car.

Below is the video shot by hubby while driving through the car washer.
While this uses lot of water for washing(which though is re-cycled), there is Eco High Pressure car washer which uses less water at very high pressure for washing.
Of course these machines have already come to India, but I haven't come across any, around my place. Will definitly post about my experience on using them here in India.

All For Kids at Dubai Mall...

Candylicious
Candylicious, a Singapore based candy brand store is a treasure of famous candy and chocolate brands from around the globe including well known M&Ms and Hershey's. With a luxuriously rich and colourful look with a candy tree, the store not only has chocolates and candies but also Plush and Cushions, bag and Pouches, gifts and accessories, stationaries all of which take the look of candies, desserts and more and more sweets. If you have sweet tooth, this place is never to be missed.

These pics were clicked with my mobile cam and do no justice to the store, its richness and colours, here is one from their online store just to show you the actual richness.

Dubai Ice Rink

The Dubai Mall also features the Olympic-size Dubai Ice Rink that can host international, competition-standard events. Its a family-oriented attraction open to the general public, with regular ‘learn to skate’ programmes taking place. The rink also serves as a multi-purpose venue that can be transformed into a concert arena, or host private functions. A giant 20m x 10m LED screen is positioned at one end of the rink. Kidzania

I heard Kidzania for the first time in Dubai, and when it was launched in Mumbai, it was no new to me and I decided to take my kid. This indoor edutainment has more than 60 establishments, with 80 plus role plays for kids at Dubai Mall. Check out my posts on Kidzania Mumbai, to know how this indoor edutainment chain works and what makes kids to be there again and again.

Of course neither Candies, nor Ice Rink or Kidzania are only kids affair. Adults enjoy them equally, so don't forget to visit these with your kids when at Dubai Mall.

More on other attractions in upcoming posts, as this post is for Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo.
Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, is one of the largest aquariums in the world. With the capacity to hold 10 million liters of water, it has thousands of aquatic animals including sharks and rays. Its 270-degree acrylic walk-through tunnel is amazing, to experience the fascinating underwater life. Vegetarian Food in Dubai

With long working hours in Dubai and me being a amateur cook then, we always preferred staying in Bur Dubai, just for the Vegetarian Restaurants it has in the vicinity. Me being hardcore veg, I prefer restaurants which serve just Veg food. Bur Dubai is mini India with lot of veg restaurants. Meena Bazaar and Al Karama have few best Indian Vegetarian joints.
Kamat, Bur Dubai
Saravana Bhavan, Kamat, Sangeetha and Vasantham serve you the South Indian Vegetarian(along with other Indian) food. Business meal at Vasantham is something which most of the south Indian bachelors rely on. A budget meal at a very nominal price, without compromising the quality. And Bhavana and Sadhana are for North India bachelors.
South Indian Thali at Kamat, Bur Dubai
Puranmal, Shiv Sagar, Sukh Sagar, Veg World and Venus(Karama) are few other restaurants, where you can look for Indian veg food.
While Karani Vegetarian Restuarant in Al Fahidi street serves the tastiest A la carte north Indian and Rajasthani cuisines, Rajdhani serves excellant traditional Thali.
Haji Ali juice centre(Karama), Puranmal's chat center and Bikanerwala(Karama) offer mouth watering chats.
But all restaurants strictly adhere to their timings and are closed in the afternoon from 3PM to 5/6PM.
So if you are planning a trip to Dubai, worry not about the vegetarian food, and just enjoy your trip.
