Traveling

Oh, how I love traveling... visiting new places, meeting people from different countries, getting acquainted, even if only briefly, with their culture...
Unfortunately we don't get to travel as much as we wish, even though our wishes are not (always) unrealistic. So, I travel virtually, wherever my embroideries might take me, by keeping track of where they "fly". One of my eyeglass cases, for instance, flew to New Zealand,  a place I can only dream of ever visiting, so I spent  days at that time admiring photos of New Zealand. And that is what I do every time an item leaves my studio, taking a piece of my heart wherever it goes. I have "visited" quite a few places this way and I feel so very lucky to have been able to do so.

My next virtual travel takes me to a place that is "within my reach" and hope to really visit it in a couple of years: Paris...

A pocket mirror and a pendant are taking me there:

I hope Paris will like them, too :)

Wishing you all a wonderful day,

Monograms

It all started at the very beginning of my pendant making madness, when I made a monogram pendant for my very special friend, Lee Albrecht. At the time I created patterns for the whole alphabet, but then moved on to other designs and forgot all about the letters.

Then an acquaintance of  Lee's saw her pendant and ordered a similar one, so another L pendant was created.

While working on it, I thought I might as well make some more and wondering which letter I should start with, I remembered that my father asked me the other day if I have ever made a pendant for myself. Well, I haven't... Correction: now I have :)

And after my A was done, it seemed only natural to embroider an M as a Mother's Day present for my Mother whose initials are MM-M.

I really, really hope that she will like it enough to wear it, too.

Have a wonderful week, Everyone!

A New Pendant

“Feeling at peace, however fragilely, made it easy to slip into the visionary end of the dark-sight. The rose shadows said that they loved the sun, but that they also loved the dark, where their roots grew through the lightless mystery of the earth. The roses said: You do not have to choose.

Good Morning, Spring!

It is still cold and the sun is playing hide and seek a lot, but the calendar says it's time, so, dear Spring, whenever you are ready, I am here!

For the last week, while waiting for spring to come, I have been busy creating pendants for "Martisor", a lovely Romanian custom for the 1st of March. These are only a couple of them:

And a purple phone pouch for an April brithday:

Now I can't wait for spring to finally do its magic!

Something old and something new

"Old" designs, new colors and experimenting different backgrounds.

This pink rose on green background is Sara's favorite :)

And since I mentioned her, here she is, "helping" me out in the studio last week, during school break:

"Mom, isn't life beautiful when we have so much gorgeous lace like this?!"

Again, we had a blast working together!

Have a wonderful weekend, Everyone!

Happy News

You might have noticed by now how much I love  making my pendants. To put it mildly... As simple as they are, I really enjoy assembling these little bouquets, playing with my favorite silks and I find it  soothing and relaxing, so that is a reward in itself. We make a good team, my pendants and I.

And since the word team came up, the good news is, that my dear friend, Lee Albrecht, founder of the Lee Albrecht Embroidery School in Campinas, Sao Paulo, was so kind as to offer to represent my pendants in Brazil. We have had a wonderful cooperation over the last few years, and I am especially grateful to her for all her support and friendship she has shown me, as Lee has not only been by my side in good times but also during some difficult periods in my life... I wish I could be such a great friend as she is, when I grow up.

So these pendants and the ones I have posted here on my blog since December are all flying to Brazil...

Thank you, Lee!

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!

Blues...

Happy ones: roses on a navy blue silk foundation.

The designs are ones I have used before, just wanted to see how a dark(er) background would work.

Not bad. Maybe it is time to stop being afraid of avoiding dark backgrounds :)

Thank you, ladies for taking up on my invitation down memory lane, I really enjoyed reading each and every one of your comments. One of them was sent to me by e-mail, as for some reason Grace of Needles Pins and Dragonflies blog could not leave a comment to my previous post. The story she shared was so sweet and touching, that I asked her permission to share it with you, too:

"My Dear Aunt Lucy taught me to crochet when I was just about 7 or 8 years old.... she was patient and that summer, everyday I would get a small ball of thread...butchers twine really, and crochet my chain. At the end of the day, I would give it to Aunt Lucy and the next day start over again. At the end of the summer I asked her what would we make from the many chains I had given her. She sat me down and told me, that every day she would re-wind the ball for the next day. That what I had learned was to make the perfect chain so that now I could make whatever I wanted. I wasn’t even angry; for she did teach me to make the perfect chain which is the foundation for all that you crochet!"

Thank you, Gracie, for sharing!

Wishing you all a wonderful week,
