Whatever Happened to the Bed Jacket?
Friends, when is the last time you saw someone wear a bed jacket who wasn't starring in a 1940's film noir?

Vogue Spring Fashions -- of 1942!
As anyone who follows me on Pinterest already knows, I am a big fan of vintage department store display, Sixties hairdos, and -- most especially -- Forties fashion.

Getting Started on Cathy's Floral Rayon Day Dress
Readers, I am happy to report that Cathy's new frock, McCall's 4752 (from 1942, I believe) is coming along smoothly.

Mystery of Vogue 4742 REVEALED, or "Do the Bustle!"
Good news, readers! Despite today's blizzard, my vintage 40's Vogue evening gown pattern arrived in the mail. It's S-4742, and I believe it dates back to 1946.

The Mystery of Vogue 4742
Readers, I have an unfortunate habit. When I'm not deeply immersed in a sewing project, my attention wanders to sites like eBay.

Miles to Sew Before I Sleep
We're getting down to the wire, people!
There is still a great deal to do before this LBD is done, and I have less than twenty-four hours to do it. I need to insert a lapped side zipper. I need to attach the sleeves. I need to stitch down the neck facings and cuff facings. I need to hem a very wide skirt. And then there's Cathy's hair!

Those Fabulous Forties Suit Patterns!
Friends, if you love vintage patterns as I do, you probably have your own favorite category -- maybe it's Fifties cocktail dresses, WWII-era aprons, or Thirties lounging pajamas. (Parenthetically, one of the fun things about Pinterest is seeing what other people are into, like Laura Mae's shoe fetish!)

A New Dress for Cathy!
Readers, I've changed my mind again.
I am not ready to jump immediately into the cotton-mohair suit jacket that goes with the pants I just made. I'm tired and I want to have some fun. Tailoring is rewarding, but fun it ain't.

Look What I Just Got in the Mail-- or "Debi Declutters"
Friends, this has been a very good week for me, sewing-wise. Or rather, sewing stuff-wise.
First, the Singer featherweight. Then, the fabulous vintage sewing book. Finally today -- well, you'll see!

The Ethics of Vintage Fur
Readers, I want one of these. I mean, I really want one.
These type of fur stoles were very popular in the 1940's and can really add a touch of luxury -- and authenticity -- to a vintage outfit.

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT -- The Vintage 40's Sewing Mannequin Doll
Friends, a bit of advice: do not shop online at night, especially on sites like Etsy and eBay, where one-of-a-kind collectibles are available for purchase at the strike of a computer key. After 11 pm, particularly around a holiday, one's resistence WILL BE LOW.

Help me make this Cyd Charisse gown!
Readers, I am officially a man on a mission! With the holidays upon us, I have decided it's time to make Cathy a really sumptuous evening dress and, after watching the 1948 Esther Williams film, "On An Island With You," I have become obsessed with this Irene Lentz-Gibbons (more commonly known as Irene) dress worn by Cyd Charisse in a tango she performs with Ricardo Montalban.
