Create scripts & voiceovers in Google Vids (Workspace Labs)

Important: This article refers to Google Workspace Labs, which is an invite only program for users to try new AI Features. To check if you have access to Workspace Labs features, open Google Vids. A window to help you start creating in Vids will appear if you have access. Learn where you can use Workspace Labs features.

Create and generate scripts to use in the Vids recording studio to use for voiceovers, video clips, and narrated screen recordings.

Create or generate a script

Use scripts in Vids to generate a voiceover or enable recording with a teleprompter in the Vids recording studio.

  1. On your computer, open Vids.
  2. To open the script sidepanel, in the sidebar, click Scripts  or at the top click View and then Show scripts.
    • To generate a first draft of your video, which includes a suggested script by scene, you can use the Gemini feature "Help me create".
    • You can edit and update generated scripts, or write your own when you add new scenes. Learn how to create a video with AI in Vids.
  3. Write a script in the side panel. 
    • Your script will automatically be saved for future use.

Record your script or generate a voiceover

  1. On your computer, open Vids.
  2. To open the script sidepanel, in the sidebar,  click Scripts  or at the top click View and then Show scripts.
  3. Choose to record yourself when you read your script or generate a voiceover at the bottom of the the script side panel:
    • To manually record yourself reading your script, click Record .
    • To generate an AI-enabled voiceover to read your script, click AI Voiceover .
      • Once the voice selector pops up, select the voice you want to use.
        • To preview the voiceover, click Play .
        • To add the voiceover to your video, click Insert into timeline.

Tips: 

  • Generate a voiceover is only available in English and only supports plain text with no emojis or symbols.
  • Scripts used to generate a voiceover can’t exceed 2500 characters.

  • Your Workspace Labs Data may also be read, rated, annotated, and reviewed by human reviewers. Importantly, where Google uses Google-selected input (as described in the Privacy Notice) to generate output, Google will aggregate and/or pseudonymize that content and resulting output before it is viewed by human reviewers, unless it is specifically provided as part of your feedback to Google.

Important: To turn off any of the features on Google Workspace Labs you must exit Workspace Labs. If you exit, you will permanently lose access to all Workspace Labs features, and you won’t be able to rejoin Workspace Labs. Learn more about how to exit Workspace Labs.

  1. In your menu bar, click Help and then Help Vids improve.
  2. Describe your issue or suggestions.
  3. Select Capture screenshot to help identify the issue.
  4. Click Send.
