Currently, the students, especially the first semester students in class A of English Department ... more Currently, the students, especially the first semester students in class A of English Department of STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau in academic year 2015/2016 must deal with many kinds of text. One of kind text that must be learned by the students is narrative text.
This study was aimed to find the problems in reading narrative text. This study was conducted by using qualitative method with multiple choice and questionnaire. Twenty students at the first semester students in class A of English Department of STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau in academic year 2015/2016 were chosen randomly.
The findings of this study suggested that the use of questionnaire and the multiple choices were effective to find the problems of the students comprehension in reading narrative text, especially the first semester students in class A of English Department of STKIP-PGRI in academic year 2015/2016. First, the students’ answer on questionnaire showed that the students’ inability in understanding the language, vocabulary, the words, and the sentences. In the second session, the students answered the multiple choices to find the generic structure of narrative text. Almost a half of them were difficult in finding the theme, the purpose, the genre, the orientation, the complication, and the resolution which contained in narrative text.
Finally, the researchers had founded the problems of the research. There were some difficulties which founded in the research at the first semester students in class A of English Department of STKIP- PGRI Lubuklinggau in academic year 2015/2016. Those were, the students were difficult in understanding the language, the vocabulary, the words, the sentences, the theme, the purpose, the genre, and the generic structures of narrative text.
