Late 1980’s. Because I wasn’t involved, and they swam in the lane next to me, this is my favorite: six guys on the team skipped out for a day trip to the ski slopes. The coach found out and the condition of them staying on the team was 6 consecutive practices of 100 x 100y @ 1:10. Single morning practice on Dec 24, doubles on the 26th-27th, and a final one in the morning on the 28th. The six guys took turns leading 10 at a time, with each swimmer leaving at 2-3 second intervals. Lots of drafting.
