Before taking on deadline and organizational responsibilities as IEEE Spectrum’s managing editor in 2007, Elizabeth covered gadgets for Tools & Toys, test-drove right-hand-drive electric vehicles around Pasadena, and live-blogged for Spectrum Online about CES exhibits and press conferences and for her ride on the “Vomit Comet” with a group of students conducting experiments in zero-g. (In those days we called it daily reporting, though, and it’s since been lost to the Wayback Machine.) She began at Spectrum in 1997 and has written about a range of topics including drive-by-wire, fly-by-wire, automotive technology, test & measurement, transmission grids, power and energy, deregulation, and GPS advances. An IEEE member, she has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Tulane University.
