Obtaining GnuPG for OS X

Choose one of the following two available versions. Expect the LTS version to lack certain features available in the stable branch.

Stable version

The latest stable version of GnuPG for OS X is 2.4.5 (released 2024-03-12):

  • Download the installation disk image (SHA-256: e924d250adc9b78a4cb72dee34e9c4d40b4c3c281aee80fcc43366de1a9cc61a).
  • Download the disk image signature file.

Long Term Support (LTS) version

The latest LTS version of GnuPG for OS X is 2.2.36 (released 2022-07-07):

  • Download the installation disk image (SHA-256: b303b8134c1d5f511d4c75a57ed238b15171c469a3b7cf9f641a7783a0f36d69).
  • Download the disk image signature file.

Installation

  1. Verify the downloaded disk image file's integrity using the signature keys listed in the next section. This is the preferred method. Only if that method is unavailable because you lack a previous GnuPG version should you consider using the SHA-256 checksum provided in this document (see above). Both the digital signature and the SHA-256 checksum were created on the build platform. Do not rely on the SourceForge SHA-1 checksum.
  2. Open the verified disk image file.
  3. When installing GnuPG for OS X for the first time, control+click or right-click on Install.pkg and choose Open from the popup menu. If you already installed a previous version of the software, simply double click on Install.pkg.
  4. Follow the setup wizard. Note that only your system disk ("Macintosh HD") is supported as an installation target.
