Do you enjoy listening to podcasts? They are quite similar to talk radio but listened to from your phone, tablet, or computer. You control what you want to listen to and when you want to listen.
People from all walks of life record themselves talking about a niche subject or interview experts in a particular field. There is a podcast for every single interest in the world! Podcasts are easy to listen to from your home, in the car, or even while grocery shopping.
I like listening to podcasts with my headphones so I concentrate better and don’t get distracted. My best times are when I’m doing work around the house, hiking, or driving (of course, with Bluetooth and not the headphones in the car).
I asked my girlfriends which podcasts they enjoy listening to, and I got some interesting answers. For example, my sister is an artist and likes to listen to true crime and murder podcasts while she works on her beautiful paintings. Yes, I was quite surprised, to say the least.
Podcasts are basically talk radio and are more popular than ever. From A-list celebrities to the girl next door, everyone can record podcasts and upload them on the internet.
Generally, the person producing the podcast is equipped with a microphone and a computer. That’s basically all someone needs to create a podcast. A second microphone is often used when the podcast is conversational or when a person is being interviewed, much like a radio station.
Podcasts can be about sports, books, food, politics, traveling, crime and law, international news, and so much more.
Interesting how the word was conceived after the invention of the iPod.
Typically, the podcaster specializes in a niche subject and uploads regularly to a platform.
Most podcasts are free, but some creators or platforms may charge a subscription fee.
Here are a few places where you can find and listen to all your favorite podcasts.

I’m late to this conversation, but – have you heard The Advisor with Stacey Chillemi? It’s not specifically for older women, but Stacey’s not a kid and she covers a wide variety of topics that you might find interesting. I’ve been on her show a lot. In fact, I have my own show within her show (Limitless Learning, Limitless Life with Charlotte Adams), and I really enjoy the conversations.
I’d like to suggest Silver and Sensational. Lois is AWESOME. She shares her life experiences and thoughts on a broad range topics so that it can empower women of all ages, but especially those of the Silver persuasion.
She drops a new episode on YouTube every Friday.
It’s hard to find podcasts by older women, for older women, especially for those of us who just want to laugh about aging. As 2 retired elementary teachers, we don’t wanna learn anything else. :)
We are reaching out as non-celebrity, boring women, who are facing invisibleness and irrelevance as we become OLD. We are female podcasters who have been trying to be heard for nearly 3 years, but we are overlooked. Why? Not only are we women in our 50s… (well, nearly 60) but we were simple, elementary school teachers with no slick ideas or beauty tricks. Our podcast goal has been to bring the joy of laughter to people. THAT IS ALL. Because of this narrow vision, and our lack of social media cuteness, we can’t get a footing, but we keep on trudging along without followers, many listens or likes. We hope this is okay… but click here if you’d like to laugh a little bit: https://youtube.com/shorts/X1pc4f6qLXo
Here’s an article about us in a VERY local paper. (I had to plead with the editor into letting us have space)

I’ve not listened to podcasts but I plan to.
When I’m painting or driving, I listen to ABC radio (Australian Broadcast Corporation) Conversations with Richard Fidler.” I have listened to the most amazing people from all over the world, including a woman living in the wilds of the Rockies who made
friends with a fox. I ended up buying her book and I’ve done that several times on the basis of the “conversation.”
ABC also broadcast a Sunday morning program that’s been running for years and years, where they visit different parts of remote Australia and talk to the locals about their lives and whatever is happening in the area. I get a more truthful idea of what is happening in my country.
Great blog! I hope you will check out my podcast: Growing Older With Gusto
I think you will enjoy it.
