Molsheim is a commune in north-eastern France, in the Bas-Rhin department, of which it is a subprefecture. It is in the Grand Est region.
The commmune is in the historical and cultural region of Alsace.
Geography
[change | change source]Molsheim is in the central part of the Bas-Rhin department, 29 km (18 mi) to the west of Strasbourg. The Bruche river, a left tributary of the Ill river, flows through the commune.
The commune has an area of 10.9 km2 (4.2 sq mi).[1] Its average altitude is 268 m (879 ft); at the city hall, the altitude is 175 m (574 ft).[2]

[change | change source]Molsheim is a subprefecture in the Bas-Rhin department since 1919. It is the capital of the Molsheim arrondissement and is also the administrative centre (French: chef-lieu) of the canton of Molsheim formed by 31 communes, with 54,596 inhabitants (2014).[5]
