Margaret Cushing Whitman (born August 4, 1956) is an American billionaire and politician.[2] She is the president and chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard.[3]

She was CEO of the online auction site eBay from 1998 to 2008. She also worked for DreamWorks, Procter & Gamble, and Hasbro. In 2010, she ran for Governor of California as a Republican. Her campaign was paid for mostly by millions of her own money. Even though she spent over $100 million, she still lost to Jerry Brown.[4]

On December 8, 2021, Joe Biden nominated Whitman to serve as United States ambassador to Kenya.[5] On July 14, 2022, her nomination was confirmed in the Senate by voice vote.[6] She was sworn-in on August 5, 2022. In November 2024, she resigned from her role as ambassador.[7]
