Zwinger Palace was built in Dresden, the capital of Saxony, during the reign of Augusts the Strong in the year 1709, and has been famous ever since for it's stunning baroque architecture. I was exposed to baroque style of architecture in person only when visited the city and this quickly became one of my most favourite parts in the city.:

Recent research revealed her identity: Lucia Wijbrants, the wealthy widow of a Dutch cloth merchant. She stands at her dressing table, surrounded by her pricey possessions, while a frisky spaniel begs for attention. Lucia emerged from a variety of sources, including known portraits (of her and her husband) featuring similar likenesses and some of the same belongings pictured here. Rembrandt often portrayed figures dressed in ancient clothes that suited the mythical, historical, oriental or biblical subjects. He originally began to paint a different picture — of a woman seated, turned slightly to the left, wearing a dress corresponding to the fashion of the time, with a millstone ruff, and wearing a small bonnet. Gerrit Dou also known as Gerard Douw or Dow, was a Dutch Golden Age painter, whose small, highly polished paintings are typical of the Leiden fijnschilders. He specialised in genre scenes and is noted for his trompe-l’œil “niche” paintings and candlelit night-scenes with strong chiaroscuro. He was a student of Rembrandt. In 1628, at the age of fourteen, his father sent him to study painting in the studio of Rembrandt who lived nearby.
