How to Wash Pillows
Even if your pillows aren’t stained, it’s important to run them through the washing machine every now and then to freshen them up. We typically do this as part of our spring cleaning regiment.
Different types of pillows need to be washed differently. You won’t want to clean your bed pillow the same way you would an ornate or decorative pillow from your couch.
Thankfully, almost any type of pillow can be washed relatively simply at home.

Is it safe to wash pillows in the washing machine?
Most bed pillows can be washed on the gentle cycle in the washing machine. But, you really need to read the care instructions on your pillow before you begin.
I have successfully washed down, cotton, feather, and fiberfill pillows in the washing machine.
Use the gentle cycle with laundry detergent intended for delicates.
Find down, cotton, and fiber-filled on Amazon.
Can pillows be washed and dried?
Down and poly-filled pillows can be washed on the gentle cycle and dried on medium or low settings in the dryer.
To help fluff your pillow in the dryer, we use these wool dryer balls with the pillows.
We actually use the dryer balls for every load of laundry because they help keep wrinkles out of clothes, sheets, blankets, and bedding, too.
Can you wash a memory foam pillow?
You should never put a memory foam pillow in the washing machine. This will ruin the pillow.
What you should do is slowly fill the sink with warm water and gentle detergent.
Very slowly submerge the pillow in the water. Then, remove it and press the water out gently.
Follow the same process again with just clear water until no more soap remains. Then, leave it in the sun to dry.
How to clean pillows without washing
You can clean pillows without washing them. Sprinkling baking soda on them and vacuuming them to remove odors.
Freshen them up and remove stains by laying them out in the sun on a hot day to sun bleach.
