this is the soundtrack to Dj Olive's omnisensorial technorganic garden called "Listening to Fir" installed at the Touchstone Museum in Nelson B.C. here's what Olive wrote about the piece:
We travel around in the seasons of our years, deep in our groove, busy building our soul from scratch. “Listening to Fir” tries to act as a momentary hall pass from the necessary blinders we use to ease our daily grind. This technorganic garden is here only to free you to contemplate whatever it is you need to contemplate or own or unpack or not bother with for just awhile. A time out.. to see the larger or smaller time, the arrangement or the rhythm of your groove. The not really music but more like atmosphere for this piece was written over the last 6 years and meant to be like medicine or a balm for the ears or a calming friend. The fir records offer a metaphor for the music or language of trees. Embedded in the grooves of our seasons are rings of memories. The projections show the micro/macro view, a suggestion for us to do the same. The bench offers us a place to root ourselves. Like a Japanese garden we don’t sit and ask the tree what we think of it we simply sit with it. In the same way i hope this place can become a launchpad for our empathetic selves to have some room to shine and charge our core. It is not about art, this is omnisensorial design, the purpose being to open a pathway/ portal for you to embrace, or just say hello, to your metaphysical self. it is only an introduction between you and.. well, you. the smell of pine, the sense of deep grain fir grooves to the touch… help release the burden of having to judge life, sit back and think about your grandmother or the time when you were two and smelled a blade of grass. Or the way your friend moves with grace through the world. With this medicine i hope to open an empathetic awareness to the natural world and the uniqueness of each life, each year, each day, each tree, each grain, each frame per second.
