So, I have found the perfect product. It's called hoop grip tape and it has probably saved me hours of fuzzing with loose fabric. Just remove the backing and apply it to the outside of the inner hoop and the tacky tape grips the fabric tightly between the hoops and prevents it from slipping so you can spend more time stitching and less time adjusting your freaking fabric.

I’ve used hot glue on this cap as it won’t be going in the washing machine, it’s sponge clean only. To create this raised embroidery you could also use puffy paint if it were to be washed or cord. This is a wool cap so it is perfect for the cooler months. Instead of placing all of your lazy daisy stitches in the same hole place them around an imaginary or an actual tiny little circle in the center. This will help prevent stitch crowding and getting those wonky threads. Not saying that you won't get those wonky threads but you will have them far less if you stitch around a little circle instead of in the middle of that circle. You'll find that you struggle a lot less to get your needle and thread through the fabric because you're not trying to cram it into a tiny little spot with a bunch of other stitches. And once you have placed all of your stitches, you'll see that you have plenty of room to add a French knot. Before when I was placing all the stitches in the same hole, I really struggled to add my final French knot to the center. But with this method, I don't struggle at all. I hope you found this helpful. What other stitches would you like me to dissect?

153K views · 18K reactions | When I thrift I’m on the lookout for fabric to repurpose into tiny hand embroidered necklaces! Here’s a few tips for harvesting your own fabric to stash and use 🪡✨ Cotton or Linen: check the clothing tag for what the item is made with—you want woven “cotton” or “linen” or a “cotton linen blend”. Cotton and linen are natural fibers and are traditional for embroidery, durable, and easy to work with. Woven Fabric: this means the fabric was made with perpendicular threads in a way that it’s not stretchy. The shirt in my reel was half woven half knit—the knit side was stretchy and would pucker and warp if I tried to embroider on it. There are also loose weaves and tight weaves. If you can see your finger through the fabric the weave is too loose; you would see the underside of your embroidery and it’s not a good fabric to use. Thickness: similar to loose and tight weave, if the fabric is too thin it will be a bit see through or if it’s too thick it will not wrap around a base well and be bunchy. It should not be too stiff like canvas and should have a nice “drape” Section: I like to look in the dresses and men’s shirt section—I have had the best luck with men’s button-up shirts. The linen section for tablecloths and placemats and napkins is also a good spot to check. Color: I find with tiny embroidery it’s best if the fabric is totally one color. Sometimes the fabric up close is a mix of two. For example, a light blue shirt that up close is made of light blue and white fibers. This little bit of detail kind of confuses the tiny details of a miniature embroidery in my personal opinion. But maybe I’m getting too nit-picky 😉 With practice you can learn how to see and feel what you are looking for on the racks of your favorite thrift store. It’s always a treasure hunt and it feels so nice to get to breathe new life into something that otherwise might not have had a second chance. 💛 Repurposed miniature embroidered necklaces and earrings are in my shop! Including few from this special fabric batch ☺️✨ #handembroidery #miniatureembroidery #embroideredjewelry #handstitched #repurposed #repurposedfabric #thrift #needlework | Katie | Tiny Handmade Embroidery & Kits
