After coming of age, she moves to Moscow from a small town and goes in search of her father, General Pechora, who is unaware of her existence. Anna secretly learns to be a typist and gets a job with her father to work on his memoirs. Kremlin stenographer Saveleva gains access to dangerous state secrets and finds herself drawn into an international espionage conspiracy. Thus begins the heroine's 30-year journey in a profession. Along with the events of the big country, Anna also writes a transcript of her own life, full of sharp turns, betrayals of loved ones and disappointments in love. The heroine will have to live under someone else's name and join the hunt for a family heirloom.
