Their mother went mad from sorrow and left her home. The brothers get to orphanage. Couple years later Seryozha gets adopted by rich Moscow family that had recently lost a little son. Slava can't forgive the betrayal of his younger brother and breaks any relationship with him for many years. Another orphan -Kolka - becomes his best friend and new brother. When a new teacher, Valeria, starts working in the orphanage, she becomes the second mother for Kolka and Slava. And both of them fall in love with her daughter Tanya. When they grow up, Slava graduates from the Univercity to become an engineer and Kolya gets disabled in Afghan war. Seryozha, whose living in unhappy family made him up a lonely and miserable person, tries to reconcile with his brother. But family reunion becomes impossible when Tanya falls in love with him and breaks up with Slava. Few years later Seryozha comes to his brother is search for their mother.
