St. Maximilian Kolbe, a Catholic priest, was a political prisoner in Auschwitz. One day a prisoner escaped and the Nazis punished the camp by choosing ten men at random to die by starvation in a cell. One of the chosen men cried out for his life. Kolbe, in an act of love for his fellow men and defiance to the Nazis, volunteered to take that man's place. Inexplicably, the Nazis agreed. Our story enters into that starvation cell and into their final days as Kolbe fights to forge a brotherhood of hope with those nine other men in one of the darkest places in human history. Written by
