Grandpa is suffering from Alzheimer's though on this day he is relatively lucid. The old man is looking through a box of old photographs. He searches for pictures of his partner of 43 years, Carl (now dead), and struggles with memories of their life together. The old man recalls events from his life with Carl - from how they met to an eventful trip they took to South America. What unfolds is a sometimes-fractured recollection of the life he shared with his partner that brings us to an emotional understanding of their relationship and the love that they attained.
