Obese people are under the impression that the gravity of their disease is still being underestimated and that their state is being reduced by "regular people" to simply "being fat". Filmmaker and screenwriter Marc Didden (60), who has been struggling with obesity for over forty years now, investigates the meaning of being overweight on a personal, medical and cultural level, starting off with his own case. He literally puts his own body on display in this production, but he will also let the experts do the talking, in a less old-fashioned way than the usual talking heads interference. The viewer doesn't have to worry: no shocking images such as stomach operations or liposuction will be shown. Dikke Vrienden will be a pleasant film about a tough subject. Beautiful and touching.
