She has written 17 books, including the short story collection, "Um Exu em Nova York" (An Eshu in New York), which won Brazil's National Library Award in 2019. She is the founding editor of "Kuanza Produções". Born in Minas Gerais, Brazil, da Silva became one of the first Brazilian authors to explore affirmative action as a means of overcoming racial inequalities.
