The river police keep an eye out. Suddenly there are three shots. The ambassador gets shot in the head and dies on his way to the hospital. The building, from where the shots were fired, is surrounded immediately. Four people come out. Luc Dupont is a Belgian who studies in Delft. He was with Jetje de Groot. A shy Dutch girl. They both say they haven't heard any of the shots. They both seem very unlikely candidates for the murder. Then there is Pieter Scheper. He is a freelance photographer and has a job as a waiter at the Park Hotel, where the ambassador stayed. Rayna asks where he originally comes from and writes it down: Pec. Pec is a place in Yugoslavia. Has he got a motive for killing the Yugoslavian ambassador? He was a volunteer in the army and a perfect marksman. The fourth person is a homeless person. He was very drunk when they got everyone out of the building. Next day Nora meets him in the library and they get talking. It seems he was a historian, but was fired because of his drinking problem. Everyday he can be found in the library. But not the day before, because the library was closed. He is very interested in the American history and especially in how some of the American presidents were shot. It also seems the police hadn't checked if he was actually drunk that day, because he was stinking of booze at the time and they just assumed he was drunk. But was he really drunk or just pretending?
