Tom tries to convince Arlene that he has no ulterior motive in helping Carrie, who must undergo surgery to repair an aneurysm. However, after Arlene leaves, Dr. Joe Cusack chastises Tom for personally guaranteeing payment for Carrie's last round of tests. Rick informs Jamie that Meg has offered to pay for his wedding to Cal, and they wonder if Meg might drop her five million dollar lawsuit against Rick, too. Dr. Albertson tells Betsy she still has time to go to her parents before she gives birth, but Betsy insists she must learn to live independently and raise her child without any help. Meg meets with Jamie and Rick and claims she wants to avoid a legal battle with her future son-in-law.
