The market day is ending and Stoyan and his wife Pena buy drinks for the gathered peasant, because after ten years of married life a son, Korchan has been born to them. On leaving the pub, they discover an abandoned baby girl sleeping next to their son Korchan in the cart. They decide to bring up the little girl too. Drought has set in. 2. Old Korchan and Lazar, millers and neighbors, set about building a windmill. During one of the breaks, Old Korchan recalls the War World I: how at the front he came across his ox. While building the windmill, rain clouds gather and their fellow-villagers come to them to celebrate the long-awaited rain. A lively round dance begins in front of the unfinished mill and Old Korchan's granddaughter Hristina challenges Lazar to a dance and says that if he out dances her she will elope with him, which is what happens. 3. Lazar and his bride set out in a small cart to visit their best man and his wife in the neighboring village, but they stop in the fields and... wake up at noon the next day. 4. Up in heaven, the saints discuss the question of human passion and the sins of the flesh. The debate is inconclusive and at dawn, Saint John invites those present to the table and serves them with salt less soup. After listening to their complaints, he wisely concludes that just as soup cannot be salted merely by a glance, so human conception by a glance is also impossible, and for this, he is given the name John Chrysostom. 5. When Old Mateyko dies, his soul sets out for the hell. An angel catches up with him and leads him away to paradise where he has been assigned a place. Despite all the beauty he sees there, Old Mateyko begins to regret he is not in the hell when he realizes that there is not a single pub in heaven. Written by Georgi Djulgerov See less
