The ambitious Dergan has plans to take control of the newspaper from meek publisher Hoyt by pretending to be in love with Hoyt's restless wife and gaining control of her stock in the paper. After a series of misadventures, Tip reveals Dergan's schemes to Mrs. Hoyt, after which her houseboy "mistakenly" shoots and kills Dergan.
