The King, his father, asks the help of Jevons, the Prince's tutor, who seeks to interest him in the beautiful Countess Patiana. The Prince, however, meets Marie Brandes, a poor girl with whom he falls deeply in love under an assumed name. When the affair is discovered, the King refuses his consent and arranges another marriage.
