The race is often referred to as L'enfer du Nord (the Hell of the North), because of the cobblestone roads that are used and the pain and suffering riders must endure to finish. Leth connects the history of the land and its people to the race, for Leth the race also reflects his own process as a filmmaker and ultimately defines the human condition. Despite the harsh conditions, the riders, the public and Jorgen have developed a love for this race that keeps them coming back every year.
