The two know each other tangentially, and are used to traveling and working together, but their social interactions don't extend beyond the occasional dinner. The pair attempts to get to know each other better, but their efforts result in ever more awkward interactions. As time drags on, Leonard eventually leaves Ethan alone in the hotel, having ducked out under false pretenses, where he faces his own inability to cope with solitude, boredom and, ultimately, with himself.
