Heppner was popular nor respected even by fellow staff, notably loathed for a Swedish pedagogic tool she introduced, the 'red bench' where troublesome students are supposed to sit a public time-out during recess, until it was wrecked. Her pedantic idealistic zeal irritated everyone. Married deputy principal Michael Kindelbacher risked losing out on promotion or worse if she exposed his affair with student Larissa, aged 16. Oriental student Massoud Abadi had a crush on her. Widower geography teacher Guido Bronner also hated the way she targeted his beloved, doting teen son Lukas, suspect of the couch vandalism, whom he sort of neglected due to deep mourning.
