Ishmael, a 12 year old boy, and Simon, his father, find a way to cross the farthest barriers to reach one another. Upendo means love in the Swahili language. The love Ishmael and his father Simon have for each other is of infinite power. We meet Ishmael during a tough time in his life. He's faced tragedy and loss while trying to navigate his childhood. He wakes up, goes to school, comes home, sleeps, then repeats -- always wanting more. He and his father are very close, his dad is his rock, and he emulates his every essence. When he and his dad can't be together it shakes Ish to the core, causing him to evaluate what love really means.
