Everyone en-route to Wikimedia All Hands starting Monday 27?
T242501 is most probably unrelated.

@Aklapper : will some protective measures be taken to prevent this mass vandalism in the future? At least, some throttles should be applied (e. g. for mass adding of "Security" tags and for mass creating of tasks with nonsensical task names).

I have some answers for your questions:
May 25 2018
Added Wikimedia-Incident tag. The incident report already exists...
Mar 27 2018
@Tgr: that looks like sensible approach to me.

Well, the reasoning behind this looks a little bit flawed to me. I can understand the basic idea of a new user right allowing to modify site JS. But:

@ABorbaWMF : Ouch. The previews in your examples are seriously broken. I hope this is not coming into production.

The examples in the second paragraph are not about IPA/pronunciation, these are citation/source related templates. They are all saying something like "dead link" or "source required". Obviously this should be stripped. On cs-wiki these are displayed via the templates which all have a common span class, namely "doplnte-zdroj". But I am not able to find the definition of this class in a local MediaWiki css or js file.

I have some reservations about the "fading" logic. Look at the following previews:
Some more complicated testcases:

@Jdlrobson : This is probably not resolved yet. Try to get a summary for Kyselina myristová. On my comp, the central group of the formula is omitted from the summary.
I changed the gadget definition from .mw-redirect to a.mw-redirect and it works! The gadget now works in articles and special pages, but not in the previews..
@ovasileva - T182321#3992796 is an example of an edge case or a bug? The preview should probably not accept css definitions designed for the normal article text. The above mentioned gadget may not be the only one that will influence the preview.
It seems there is some collision between the page previews code and "Zvýrazňovat přesměrování" (highlight redirects) gadget now. The redirects in the text extract are now highligted with rose background and overline. See for example previews for:

You have also my thanks for the status updates and the prompt fix.
