Definitions
- the present invention relates to gas sensors.
- a gas sensor that detects the concentration of a specific gas such as NOx in a gas to be measured such as automobile exhaust gas.
- the NOx sensor described in Patent Document 1 includes an electrochemical pump cell that includes an oxygen ion-conducting solid electrolyte and a measuring electrode capable of reducing NOx. This NOx sensor converts the NOx gas in the gas to be measured into O 2 gas at the measuring electrode, and the pump current flowing through the electrochemical pump cell, which changes according to the concentration of the converted O 2 gas, is measured. Outputs the NOx concentration in the gas.
- Patent Document 1 in such a NOx sensor, when the NOx concentration changes to zero, for example, when the fuel supply to the engine is stopped, the output signal of the NOx concentration is an ideal signal. It is described that an undershoot that temporarily drops excessively occurs compared to . Such an undershoot is not preferable because it tends to deteriorate the measurement accuracy of the NOx concentration. Patent Document 2 describes that such a phenomenon is caused by a change in water content in the gas to be measured. Further, Patent Document 1 describes that undershoot can be suppressed by subjecting a sensor element of a NOx sensor to rich treatment in a rich atmosphere at a temperature of 500° C. or higher for 15 minutes or longer. The rich atmosphere at this time is a gas atmosphere containing hydrocarbons, having a NO concentration of 0.05% or more and 1.0% or less by volume, and an excess air ratio ( ⁇ ) of 0.80 to 0.9999.
- a sensor element of a NOx sensor to rich treatment in a rich atmosphere at a temperature of 500° C. or
- the present invention has been made to solve such problems, and its main purpose is to suppress an increase in the undershoot and overshoot of the measurement pump current that accompanies the use of the gas sensor.
- the present invention employs the following means to achieve the above-mentioned main purpose.
- the gas sensor of the present invention is an element body including a solid electrolyte layer with oxygen ion conductivity and having therein a measured gas flow section for introducing and circulating a measured gas; an outer measuring electrode provided outside the element main body so as to be in contact with the gas to be measured; a measuring pump cell for pumping oxygen from around the measuring electrode to around the outer measuring electrode; an adjustment pump cell for adjusting the oxygen concentration in an oxygen concentration adjustment chamber provided upstream of the measurement chamber in the measurement gas circulation portion; a reference electrode disposed inside the element body so as to be in contact with a reference gas serving as a reference for detecting the specific gas concentration in the gas to be measured; a measuring voltage detection sensor cell that detects a measuring voltage between the reference electrode and the inner measuring electrode; a sensor element having normal time adjustment pump control processing for operating the adjustment pump cell; and normal time measurement for pumping oxygen in the measurement chamber by controlling the measurement pump cell so that the measurement voltage of the sensor element reaches a target value.
- a specific gas concentration detection unit for detecting the concentration of the specific gas in the gas to be measured based on the measurement pump current flowing through the measurement pump cell by the normal measurement pump control processing;
- a necessity determination unit that performs a necessity determination process for determining necessity of refresh of the sensor element based on at least one of undershoot and overshoot when the measurement pump current changes suddenly; Refreshing for controlling the adjustment pump cell so as to pump out more oxygen from the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber than in the normal adjustment pump control process when the refresh necessity determination process determines that the refresh is required.
- a refresh control unit that performs refresh processing including is provided.
- this gas sensor there is a normal adjustment pump control process for operating the adjustment pump cell, and a normal measurement pump control process for pumping out oxygen in the measurement chamber by controlling the measurement pump cell so that the measurement voltage of the sensor element reaches the target value.
- a pump control process is performed.
- the specific gas concentration in the gas to be measured is detected based on the measurement pump current flowing through the measurement pump cell by the normal measurement pump control process.
- a refresh necessity determination process is performed to determine whether the sensor element needs to be refreshed based on at least one of undershoot and overshoot when the measurement pump current changes suddenly, and it is determined that the refresh is necessary.
- refresh processing is performed.
- the refresh process includes a refresh time adjustment pump control process for controlling the adjustment pump cell so as to pump out more oxygen from the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber than the normal time adjustment pump control process, and a normal time measurement pump control process. and/or a refresh measurement pump control process for controlling the measurement pump cell to pump out more oxygen in the measurement chamber than before.
- the inventors of the present invention have found that performing such a refresh process can reduce undershoot and overshoot that increase with use of the gas sensor. In this gas sensor, it is possible to suppress an increase in the undershoot and overshoot of the measurement pump current due to the use of the gas sensor by determining whether or not the refresh is necessary and performing the refresh processing when it is determined that the refresh is necessary.
- the refresh necessity judgment process is not limited to the process of making a judgment based on the measurement pump current itself, but the judgment is made based on a value that can be converted to the measurement pump current or a value that can be equated with the measurement pump current. Also includes processing. For example, the refresh necessity determination process may be performed based on at least one of undershoot and overshoot when the value of the specific gas concentration detected based on the measurement pump current changes suddenly. Further, it is preferable that the specific gas concentration detection unit does not perform the normal measurement pump control process during the refresh process, and more preferably does not perform the normal adjustment pump control process. During the refresh process, it is preferable that the measurement pump cell is not controlled to pump oxygen into the measurement chamber, and furthermore, the adjustment pump cell is controlled to pump oxygen into the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber. It is more preferable that no
- the refresh processing may include the adjustment pump control processing during refresh.
- the refresh adjustment pump control process is more effective in refreshing the sensor element than the refresh measurement pump control process. Therefore, by performing at least the adjustment pump control process during refresh in the refresh process, the effect of suppressing the undershoot and overshoot of the measurement pump current can be enhanced and the refresh process can be performed in a shorter time.
- the refresh process may not include the pump control process for measurement during refresh.
- the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber includes a first internal space and a downstream side of the first internal space and an upstream side of the measurement chamber. a second internal cavity provided in the regulating pump cell, wherein the regulating pump cell comprises a main pump cell for regulating the oxygen concentration in the first internal cavity and an auxiliary pump cell for regulating the oxygen concentration in the second internal cavity. and a pump cell, wherein the adjustment pump control process for refreshing controls the main pump cell so as to pump out more oxygen from the first internal space than the pump control process for normal adjustment. and controlling the auxiliary pump cell to pump out more oxygen in the second internal space than in the normal adjustment pump control process.
- the gas to be measured is exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine
- the necessity determination unit is configured to measure fuel from the internal combustion engine.
- the refresh necessity determination process may be performed based on the behavior when the measurement pump current suddenly changes due to cutting. Undershoot and overshoot of the measuring pump current are likely to occur when the H 2 O concentration (moisture content) in the gas to be measured changes suddenly. Then, there is a high possibility that the H 2 O concentration changes suddenly when the fuel of the internal combustion engine is cut. Therefore, by determining the necessity of refreshing based on the behavior (at least one of undershoot and overshoot) when the measurement pump current suddenly changes due to fuel cut of the internal combustion engine, it is possible to more appropriately determine the necessity of refreshing.
- the necessity determination unit determines the difference between the amount of undershoot and the amount of overshoot when the pump current for measurement changes suddenly. It may be determined that the refresh is necessary when at least one of them is out of the allowable range. In this way, it is possible to appropriately determine whether or not refresh is necessary based on at least one of the amount of undershoot and the amount of overshoot.
- the refresh control section controls the refresh control section when the gas under measurement in the gas flow section under measurement can be regarded as containing carbon.
- the refresh processing may be performed.
- the refresh process must be performed in a state where the gas to be measured contains carbon. Therefore, by performing the refresh process when the gas to be measured in the gas flow portion to be measured can be considered to contain carbon, the refresh can be effectively performed. As a result, even if the refresh process is performed, for example, the undershoot and overshoot are not reduced, and the situation in which the refresh process is required again is unlikely to occur.
- “the gas under measurement contains carbon” includes the case where the gas under measurement contains molecules having carbon. For example, if the gas to be measured is carbon (C), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), . A gas under test is said to contain carbon if it contains one or more hydrocarbons (HC).
- the processing time of the refresh processing may be 1 second or more and 10 seconds or less. By setting the processing time to 1 second or longer, the sensor element can be refreshed more reliably. In addition, even if the refresh process is executed for a long period of time, the effect of refreshing is not so high, and the effect of refreshing is relatively high in the first 10 seconds after the start. Also, since the specific gas concentration cannot be detected correctly during the refresh process, it is preferable that the refresh process takes a short time. By setting the processing time to 10 seconds or less, it is possible to efficiently refresh the sensor element while shortening the time during which the concentration of the specific gas cannot be detected correctly.

- the control unit 91 performs normal auxiliary pump control processing for controlling the auxiliary pump cell 50 so that the oxygen concentration in the second internal space 40 reaches the target concentration. Specifically, the control unit 91 controls the auxiliary pump cell 50 by feedback-controlling the voltage Vp1 of the variable power supply 52 so that the voltage V1 becomes a constant value (referred to as a target value V1*).
- the target value V1* is determined as a value such that the oxygen concentration in the second internal space 40 becomes a predetermined low concentration that does not substantially affect the measurement of NOx.
- the control unit 91 controls the pump current Ip1 that flows when the auxiliary pump cell 50 adjusts the oxygen concentration in the second internal space 40 by the normal-time auxiliary pump control process to become a target current (referred to as a target current Ip1*).
- a normal main pump control process for controlling the pump cell 21 is performed.
- the control unit 91 sets the target value of the voltage V0 (referred to as the target value V0*) based on the pump current Ip1 so that the pump current Ip1 flowing by the voltage Vp1 becomes a constant target current Ip1*. (feedback control).
- the control unit 91 feedback-controls the pump voltage Vp0 of the variable power supply 24 so that the voltage V0 becomes the target value V0* (that is, so that the oxygen concentration in the first internal space 20 becomes the target concentration). Due to this normal main pump control process, the gradient of the partial pressure of oxygen in the gas to be measured introduced from the third diffusion control section 30 into the second internal space 40 is always kept constant.
- the target value V0* is set to a value such that the oxygen concentration in the first internal space 20 is higher than 0% and is low.
- the pump current Ip0 flowing during the normal main pump control process depends on the oxygen concentration of the measured gas flowing into the measured gas flow section from the gas inlet 10 (that is, the measured gas surrounding the sensor element 101). change by Therefore, the control section 91 can also detect the oxygen concentration in the gas under measurement based on the pump current Ip0.
- the normal main pump control process and the normal auxiliary pump control process described above are collectively referred to as the normal adjustment pump control process.
- the first internal space 20 and the second internal space 40 are collectively referred to as an oxygen concentration adjustment chamber.
- the main pump cell 21 and the auxiliary pump cell 50 are also collectively referred to as adjustment pump cells.
- the adjustment pump cell adjusts the oxygen concentration in the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber by the control unit 91 performing normal adjustment pump control processing.
- control unit 91 controls the measuring pump cell 41 so that the voltage V2 becomes a constant value (referred to as a target value V2*) (that is, so that the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61 becomes a predetermined low concentration).
- the normal measurement pump control process for controlling is performed. Specifically, the control unit 91 controls the measurement pump cell 41 by feedback-controlling the voltage Vp2 of the variable power supply 46 so that the voltage V2 becomes the target value V2*. Oxygen is pumped out of the third internal space 61 by this normal measurement pump control process.
- the control unit 91 acquires the pump current Ip2 as a detected value corresponding to the oxygen generated in the third internal cavity 61 due to the specific gas (here, NOx), and based on this pump current Ip2, the measured value is measured. Calculate the NOx concentration in the gas.
- the storage unit 94 stores a relational expression (for example, a linear function expression), a map, etc. as the correspondence relationship between the pump current Ip2 and the NOx concentration.
- a relational expression or map can be obtained in advance by experiments.
- FIG. 3 is a graph showing how the pump current Ip2 undershoots and overshoots.
- FIG. 3 shows, with a solid line, an example of the behavior of the pump current Ip2 when the fuel of the internal combustion engine is cut while the gas sensor 100 is measuring the NOx concentration in the gas to be measured. Also, the behavior of the ideal pump current Ip2 is indicated by a dashed line.
- the pump current Ip2 which is a value corresponding to the NOx concentration, quickly follows the start of fuel cut and changes to a corresponding value (see FIG. 3). 3 changes from I1 to I0). Also, when the fuel cut is completed, the value should change to a corresponding value immediately following this (change from I0 to I1 in FIG. 3). However, in reality, as indicated by the solid line in FIG. 3, the pump current Ip2 undergoes excessive output fluctuations that are different from changes in the actual NOx concentration.
- an undershoot occurs in the pump current Ip2 in which the value once excessively drops and then rises to a value corresponding to the actual NOx concentration.
- the pump current Ip2 once excessively increases and then overshoots to a value corresponding to the actual NOx concentration.
- the overshoot and undershoot of the pump current Ip2 may not occur, but the overshoot and undershoot tend to increase as the gas sensor 100 is used.
- the amount of undershoot and the amount of overshoot shown in FIG. 3 tend to increase as the gas sensor 100 is used.
- the amount of undershoot can be calculated, for example, as the difference between the lowest value when the pump current Ip2 drops excessively and the value when the pump current Ip2 stabilizes thereafter.
- the overshoot amount can be calculated, for example, as a difference value between the maximum value when the pump current Ip2 rises excessively and the value when the pump current Ip2 stabilizes thereafter.
- the amount of undershoot and the amount of overshoot can be calculated as the maximum value of the difference between the value when excessive output fluctuation occurs in the pump current Ip2 and the value of the ideal pump current Ip2.
- the gas sensor 100 can be used by performing a process of controlling the sensor element 101 so as to pump out more oxygen from the gas flow part to be measured than when measuring the specific gas concentration (normal time). It has been found that the accompanying increased undershoot and overshoot can be reduced.
- This processing is called refresh processing.
- the refresh process includes a refresh adjustment pump control process for controlling the adjustment pump cell so as to pump out more oxygen from the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber than the normal adjustment pump control process, and a normal adjustment pump control process. and/or a refresh measurement pump control process for controlling the measurement pump cell 41 to pump out more oxygen in the third internal cavity 61 than the refresh pump control process.
- the refresh measurement pump control process performs feedback control of the voltage Vp2 of the variable power supply 46 so that the voltage V2 becomes a target value V2r* higher than the above-described target value V2*.
- the voltage V2 is a value related to the oxygen concentration difference between the surroundings of the reference electrode 42 and the third internal space 61.
- the lower the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61 the greater the oxygen concentration difference and the higher the voltage V2. become. Therefore, the fact that the target value V2r* is higher than the target value V2* means that when the refresh-time measurement pump control process is executed, the third internal empty space is higher than when the normal-time measurement pump control process is executed. It means setting the target value of the oxygen concentration at the place 61 to a lower value. Therefore, in this refreshing measurement pump control process, the measurement pump cell 41 is controlled so as to pump out more oxygen from the third internal space 61 than in the normal measurement pump control process.
- the refresh adjustment pump control process includes a refresh main pump control process for controlling the main pump cell 21 so as to pump out more oxygen from the first internal space 20 than the normal main pump control process, and a normal auxiliary pump control process. and/or a refresh-time auxiliary pump control process that controls the auxiliary pump cell 50 to pump more oxygen out of the second internal cavity 40 than the pump control process.
- the main pump control process during refresh and the auxiliary pump control process during refresh are processes in which the target value of feedback control is set to a higher value than in normal times, as in the measurement pump control process during refresh.
- the main pump control process during refresh is a process of feedback-controlling the pump voltage Vp0 of the variable power supply 24 so that the voltage V0 becomes a predetermined target value V0r* higher than the above-described target value V0*.
- the target value V0* is set (changed) based on the pump current Ip1, but in the refresh main pump control process, the target value V0r* is not changed based on the pump current Ip1.
- a predetermined value is used.
- the refresh time auxiliary pump control process is the same as the normal time auxiliary pump control process except that the voltage Vp1 of the variable power supply 52 is feedback-controlled so that the voltage V1 becomes a predetermined target value V1r* higher than the target value V1*.
- the refresh process it is preferable not to perform the normal measurement pump control process, and more preferably not to perform the normal adjustment pump control process. It is preferable that the measurement pump cell 41 is not controlled to pump oxygen into the third internal cavity 61 during the refresh process, and furthermore, the main pump cell 21 is controlled to pump oxygen into the first internal cavity 20 . It is more preferable that no such control and auxiliary pump cell 50 pumping oxygen into the second internal cavity 40 is performed. For example, when the refresh measurement pump control process is performed, the normal measurement pump control process cannot be performed, but it is preferable not to perform the normal adjustment pump control process.
- variable power supply 24 and the variable power supply 52 do not apply a voltage, and the main pump cell 21 and the auxiliary pump cell 50 are in a non-operating state.
- variable power supply 52 and the variable power supply 46 do not apply voltage, and the auxiliary pump cell 50 and the measurement pump cell 41 are in a non-operating state.
- variable power supply 24 and the variable power supply 46 do not apply voltage, and the main pump cell 21 and the measurement pump cell 41 are in a non-operating state.
- the pump cells not used for the refresh process are not subjected to the normal pump control process and the control for pumping oxygen. , preferably the pump cell is not operated.
- FIG. 4 is a graph showing how the undershoot and overshoot of the pump current Ip2 in the actual sensor element 101 increase. This graph was obtained as follows. A state in which the controller 90 controls the sensor element 101 to measure the NOx concentration in a state in which the sensor element 101 is attached to the pipe and a model gas as the gas to be measured is flowed through the pipe using the model gas apparatus. bottom. As a model gas, the first model gas (NO concentration 500 ppm, H 2 O concentration 12%, oxygen concentration 0%, base gas is nitrogen) was flowed first, and then the second model gas (NO concentration 0 ppm, H 2 O concentration 0) was flowed.
- the first model gas NO concentration 500 ppm, H 2 O concentration 12%, oxygen concentration 0%, base gas is nitrogen
- the first model gas is flowed again to rapidly change the NO concentration, H 2 O concentration, and oxygen concentration of the gas to be measured, and the fuel is cut.
- the flow rate of the model gas was 100 L/min, and the temperature was 120°C.
- Then, the time change of the pump current Ip2 at this time was measured.
- the dashed line in FIG. 4 represents the change over time of the pump current Ip2 in the sensor element 101 in the initial state (immediately after manufacture).
- the solid line in FIG. 4 represents the change over time of the pump current Ip2 in the sensor element 101 simulating the state after being used from the initial state.
- the sensor element 101 in the initial state was left in the atmosphere for 5 minutes while the heater 72 was energized and the temperature was maintained at about 700° C. to 800° C. to prepare the sensor element 101 simulating the state after use. As shown in FIG. 4, the sensor element 101 in the initial state had almost no overshoot and undershoot, whereas the sensor element 101 simulating the state after use had increased overshoot and undershoot. .
- the sensor element 101 simulating the state after use was refreshed as follows.
- a model gas having a CO 2 concentration of 15%, an H 2 O concentration of 15%, and nitrogen as the base gas was flowed through the piping to which the sensor element 101 was attached as the gas to be measured.
- the target value V0r* of the main pump control process during refresh was set to 1000 mV, and the processing time was set to 300 seconds.
- no voltage was applied to the variable power supply 46 and the variable power supply 52, and the measurement pump cell 41 and the auxiliary pump cell 50 were in a non-operating state.
- the solid line in FIG. 5 represents the change over time of the pump current Ip2 in the sensor element 101 before refresh processing.
- the dashed line in FIG. 5 represents the change over time of the pump current Ip2 in the sensor element 101 after the refresh process.
- undershoot and overshoot were reduced by performing the refresh process, and the sensor element 101 recovered to almost the same state as the sensor element 101 in the initial state shown in FIG. Since the waveform of the pump current Ip2 causes the undershoot and overshoot, it is considered that the measurement electrode 44 among the sensor elements 101 in particular is refreshed by the refresh process.
- the target value V2r* was set to 1000 mV when performing the pump control process for measurement during refresh, and the main pump cell 21 and the auxiliary pump cell 50 were in a non-operating state during this process.
- the vertical axis of FIG. 6 is based on the initial value of the undershoot amount (a small value close to zero) of the sensor element 101 in the initial state, and the difference ⁇ US between the initial value and the undershoot amount after the refresh processing. Expressed as a percentage. It means that the closer the difference ⁇ US is to 0%, the more the undershoot amount is reduced and the sensor element 101 is recovered (refreshed) to the same state as the initial state.
- the difference ⁇ US is to 0%
- the difference ⁇ US is about ⁇ 450% (the amount of undershoot is the initial value 5.5 times), it was confirmed that the longer the treatment time, the closer the difference ⁇ US to 0%.
- the results of the main pump control process during refresh and the auxiliary pump control process during refresh are significantly higher.
- the adjustment pump control process during refresh (here, the main pump control process during refresh and the auxiliary pump control process during refresh) is more effective in refreshing the sensor element 101 than the measurement pump control process during refresh. confirmed. Therefore, the refresh process preferably includes a pump control process for adjustment during refresh. Further, as can be seen from FIG. 6 and Table 1, it was confirmed that the difference ⁇ US rapidly approached 0% when the processing time was 10 seconds or less, and thereafter tended to approach 0% relatively gently.
- the processing time of the refresh processing is preferably 1 second or longer.
- the refresh process must be performed in a state in which the gas to be measured in the gas circulation portion to be measured contains carbon.
- the gas under measurement contains carbon includes the case where the gas under measurement contains molecules having carbon.
- the gas to be measured is carbon (C), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), .
- a gas under test is said to contain carbon if it contains one or more hydrocarbons (HC).
- the refresh process in the above example was performed using a model gas with a CO 2 concentration of 15%, an H 2 O concentration of 15%, and nitrogen as the base gas . However, no effect of reducing undershoot and overshoot was observed. Also, when the refresh process was performed using a model gas containing ethylene (C 2 H 4 ) instead of containing no CO 2 , an effect of reducing undershoot and overshoot was confirmed.
- the reason why the effect of the refresh process can be obtained when the gas to be measured contains carbon is considered as follows. First, at least one of carbon (C), carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) adheres to the measurement electrode 44 in the sensor element 101 in the initial state (immediately after manufacture). It is considered that shoots do not occur or become smaller. It is considered that undershoot and overshoot increase as the above-mentioned substance adhering to the measurement electrode 44 decreases as the sensor element 101 is used.
- oxygen in the gas to be measured in the gas circulation portion to be measured is pumped out more than usual, and the atmosphere becomes a more reducing atmosphere than usual.
- hydrocarbons (HC) tend to adhere to the measurement electrode 44 by performing the refresh process. Therefore, in this case as well, the measurement electrode 44 can be restored (refreshed) to the same state as the initial state, and undershoot and overshoot can be reduced.
- FIG. 7 is a flowchart showing an example of a control routine executed by the control section 91.
- the control unit 91 stores this routine in the storage unit 94, for example.
- the control unit 91 controls, for example, power supplied to the heater 72 by the heater power supply 76, and starts this control routine when the temperature of the heater 72 reaches a target temperature (eg, 800° C.).
- a target temperature eg, 800° C.
- the CPU 92 of the control unit 91 first starts normal control processing for measuring the NOx concentration (step S100).
- the CPU 92 performs the above-described normal time adjustment pump control process (normal time main pump control process and normal time auxiliary pump control process) and the above-described normal time measurement pump control process.
- the CPU 92 calculates the NOx concentration in the gas under measurement based on the pump current Ip2 that flows by the normal measurement pump control process.
- the necessity determination timing is timing at which an undershoot or an overshoot may occur in the pump current Ip2. As described in Patent Document 2, undershoot and overshoot are likely to occur when the H 2 O concentration in the gas to be measured changes. Therefore, it is preferable to set the timing at which it can be considered that the H 2 O concentration in the gas to be measured in the gas circulation portion to be measured has suddenly changed, as the necessity determination timing. In the present embodiment, the necessity determination timing is set to the start of fuel cut of the internal combustion engine.
- the control unit 91 detects the start of fuel cut based on fuel cut execution information obtained from an engine ECU (not shown) of the internal combustion engine.
- the CPU 92 determines at predetermined time intervals whether or not it has acquired fuel cut execution information indicating that the fuel has been cut from the engine ECU. It is determined that it is the necessity determination timing.
- step S110 If it is determined in step S110 that it is time to determine the necessity of refreshing, the CPU 92 calculates the amount of undershoot of the pump current Ip2 and determines whether the calculated value is within the allowable range. Processing is performed (step S120). In the present embodiment, it is determined that it is time to determine the necessity of fuel cut when fuel cut is started, so immediately after that, the pump current Ip2 abruptly decreases as shown in FIGS. The CPU 92 calculates the amount of undershoot from the behavior (waveform) of the pump current Ip2 at this time.
- the determination in step S120 may be performed by comparing the undershoot amount itself calculated this time with the allowable range, or the undershoot amount (initial value) in the initial state of the sensor element 101 and the undershoot calculated this time. It may be performed by comparing the difference with the amount and the allowable range.
- the upper limit of the allowable range is set as the value of the pump current Ip2 corresponding to the NOx concentration of 5 ppm, and if the undershoot amount itself exceeds this upper limit, even if it is determined that it is out of the allowable range. good.
- the difference between the initial value and the current undershoot amount exceeds this upper limit value, it may be determined that the difference is out of the allowable range.
- Information on the allowable range and initial values may be stored in the storage unit 94 in advance.
- the CPU 92 determines that refresh processing is necessary, and sets flag F to value 1 (step S130).
- Flag F is set to a value of 1 when refresh processing is required, and set to a value of 0 when refresh processing is not required and at the start of the control routine.
- step S140 determines whether or not it is time to execute the refresh process.
- the execution timing of the refresh process is the timing at which the measured gas in the measured gas circulation section can be considered to contain carbon. In this embodiment, the execution timing is during operation of the internal combustion engine (other than during fuel cut). Except when the fuel is cut, the gas to be measured basically contains carbon (especially CO 2 ), so it is suitable for refresh processing.
- the CPU 92 determines whether or not it is time to execute the refresh process based on fuel cut execution information acquired from an engine ECU (not shown) of the internal combustion engine. For example, the CPU 92 determines at predetermined time intervals whether or not fuel cut execution information indicating that the fuel has been cut has been acquired from the engine ECU. It is determined that it is in operation other than the above and that it is time to execute the refresh process.
- step S140 determines whether the flag F has a value of 1 (step S150). Stop (step S160) and execute refresh processing (step S170). That is, when it is time to execute the refresh process and it is determined that the refresh is necessary (flag F has a value of 1), the CPU 92 performs the refresh process.
- the CPU 92 executes the main pump control process during refresh for 10 seconds as the refresh process, for example. In this case, since the normal time control process is stopped in step S160, the normal time auxiliary pump control process and the normal time measurement pump control process are not performed during the refresh process.
- the CPU 92 sets the flag F to a value of 0 (step S180), starts the normal control process again (step S190), and starts detecting the NOx concentration.
- step S190 After starting the normal time control process in step S190, when it is determined that it is not time to execute the refresh process in step S140, or when the flag F is not the value 1 in step S150, the CPU 92 executes the process after step S110. do.
- the control routine of FIG. 7 By executing the control routine of FIG. 7 by the CPU 92 as described above, it is possible to perform the refresh process as necessary while measuring the NOx concentration.
- the refresh process of the present invention can be performed not only during manufacturing or maintenance of the gas sensor 100 but also during use of the gas sensor 100 (for example, during operation of the internal combustion engine).
- the correspondence between the components of this embodiment and the components of the present invention will be clarified.
- Six layers of the first substrate layer 1, the second substrate layer 2, the third substrate layer 3, the first solid electrolyte layer 4, the spacer layer 5, and the second solid electrolyte layer 6 of the present embodiment are laminated in this order.
- the laminate corresponds to the element main body of the present invention
- the outer pump electrode 23 corresponds to the outer measuring electrode
- the third internal cavity 61 corresponds to the measuring chamber
- the measuring electrode 44 corresponds to the inner measuring electrode
- the measuring electrode 44 corresponds to the inner measuring electrode.
- the pump cell 41 corresponds to the measuring pump cell
- the first internal cavity 20 and the second internal cavity 40 correspond to the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber
- the main pump cell 21 and the auxiliary pump cell 50 correspond to the adjusting pump cell
- the reference electrode 42 . corresponds to the reference electrode
- the measuring pump control oxygen partial pressure detecting sensor cell 82 corresponds to the measuring voltage detecting sensor cell
- the sensor element 101 corresponds to the sensor element
- the pump current Ip2 corresponds to the measuring pump current
- the control device 90 corresponds to the specific gas concentration detection section, the necessity determination section, and the refresh control section.
- the control device 90 performs the refresh necessity determination process for determining whether the sensor element 101 needs to be refreshed based on the undershoot when the pump current Ip2 changes suddenly.
- refresh processing is performed.
- the adjustment pump cells here, The measurement pump cell 41 is operated so as to pump out more oxygen from the third internal cavity 61 than the refresh adjustment pump control process for controlling the main pump cell 21 and the auxiliary pump cell 50
- the normal measurement pump control process for controlling the main pump cell 21 and the auxiliary pump cell 50
- at least one of control processing for the measurement pump during refreshment By performing such refresh processing, an increase in undershoot and overshoot of the pump current Ip2 due to use of the gas sensor 100 can be suppressed.
- the refresh process includes a pump control process for adjustment during refresh.
- the refresh adjustment pump control process is more effective in refreshing the sensor element 101 than the refresh measurement pump control process. Therefore, by performing at least the pump control process for adjustment during refresh in the refresh process, the effect of suppressing the undershoot and overshoot of the pump current Ip2 can be enhanced and the refresh process can be performed in a shorter time.
- the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber comprises a first internal space 20 and a second internal space 40 provided downstream of the first internal space 20 and upstream of the third internal space 61.
- the adjustment pump cell has a main pump cell 21 for adjusting the oxygen concentration in the first internal space 20 and an auxiliary pump cell 50 for adjusting the oxygen concentration in the second internal space 40 .
- the refresh adjustment pump control process includes a process of controlling the main pump cell 21 so as to pump out more oxygen from the first internal cavity 20 than the normal adjustment pump control process, and a normal adjustment pump control process. and/or controlling the auxiliary pump cell 50 to pump more oxygen out of the second internal cavity 40 than the control process.
- the gas to be measured is the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine, and the control unit 91 performs the refresh necessity determination process based on the behavior when the pump current Ip2 suddenly changes due to the fuel cut of the internal combustion engine.
- the undershoot of the pump current Ip2 tends to occur when the H 2 O concentration in the gas to be measured changes suddenly, not when the NOx concentration changes suddenly.
- the gas to be measured is temporarily in the same state as the atmosphere, so there is a high possibility that the H 2 O concentration will suddenly change. Therefore, it is possible to more appropriately determine the necessity of refreshing by determining the necessity of refreshing based on the behavior of the pump current Ip2 when the pump current Ip2 suddenly changes due to the fuel cut of the internal combustion engine.
- the refresh necessity determination process is performed in this case, it may be determined that the refresh process is unnecessary, and the necessity determination may not be properly performed.
- the refresh necessity determination process by performing the refresh necessity determination process at the time of fuel cut when there is a high possibility that the H 2 O concentration suddenly changes, it is possible to more appropriately determine the necessity of refresh.
- control device 90 determines that the sensor element 101 needs to be refreshed when the amount of undershoot at the time of sudden change in the pump current Ip2 is out of the allowable range. This makes it possible to appropriately determine whether or not refresh is necessary based on the amount of undershoot.
- the control device 90 performs refresh processing when it can be assumed that the gas to be measured in the gas circulation part to be measured contains carbon. Since the refresh process must be performed in a state in which the gas to be measured contains carbon, the refresh process can be performed when the gas to be measured in the gas flow part to be measured can be considered to contain carbon, thereby performing the refresh effectively. can be done. As a result, even if the refresh process is performed, for example, the undershoot and overshoot are not reduced, and the situation in which the refresh process is required again is unlikely to occur.
- the processing time of the refresh process is 1 second or more and 10 seconds or less. By setting the processing time to 1 second or longer, the sensor element 101 can be refreshed more reliably. In addition, even if the refresh process is executed for a long period of time, the effect of refreshing is not so high, and the effect of refreshing is relatively high in the first 10 seconds after the start. Also, since the NOx concentration cannot be detected correctly during the refresh process, it is preferable that the refresh process takes a short time. By setting the processing time to 10 seconds or less, it is possible to efficiently refresh the sensor element 101 while shortening the time during which the NOx concentration cannot be detected correctly.
- the undershoot and overshoot of the pump current Ip2 may not be sufficiently reduced in one refresh process.
- it is determined that the refresh process is necessary in the next refresh necessity determination process for example, step S120 after performing step S170 in FIG. 7
- the refresh process is executed again. Therefore, the refresh process is repeatedly executed until the refresh necessity determination process determines that the refresh process is unnecessary, and the undershoot and overshoot are reduced to such an extent that the refresh process is finally determined to be unnecessary.
- the light-off time of the sensor element 101 can be shortened. For example, it may take some time from when the normal control process is started in step S190 of FIG. 7 until the pump current Ip2 reaches a value corresponding to the NOx concentration. This time is called a light-off time, and the NOx concentration cannot be measured correctly until the light-off time has passed. The longer the refresh processing time, the longer the light-off time tends to be.
- the processing time of the refresh process to 10 seconds or less, the light-off time of the sensor element 101 can be shortened, and measurement of the NOx concentration can be started immediately after the refresh process.
- the CPU 92 determines the necessity of refresh processing based on the amount of undershoot of the pump current Ip2. It suffices to determine whether or not it is necessary. For example, the necessity of refresh processing may be determined based on the minimum undershoot value of the pump current Ip2. Alternatively, the necessity of refresh processing may be determined based on the undershoot time, which is the time from when the pump current Ip2 reaches the minimum undershoot value to when the pump current Ip2 stabilizes thereafter. Further, the CPU 92 may determine the necessity of the refresh process based on the overshoot of the pump current Ip2.
- the necessity of the refresh process may be determined based on the amount of overshoot of the pump current Ip2.
- the necessity of the refresh process may be determined based on the maximum overshoot value of the pump current Ip2.
- the necessity of refresh processing may be determined based on the overshoot time, which is the time from when the pump current Ip2 reaches the maximum overshoot value until the pump current Ip2 stabilizes thereafter.
- the CPU 92 may determine the necessity of refresh processing based on both the undershoot and overshoot of the pump current Ip2.
- the necessity determination timing of the determination in step S110 may be the timing at which overshoot may occur, for example, the end of the fuel cut. good.
- the end of the fuel cut can be detected based on the above-described fuel cut execution information in the same manner as the start of the fuel cut.
- the CPU 92 determines at predetermined time intervals whether or not fuel cut execution information indicating that the fuel has been cut has been acquired from the engine ECU. When it is no longer acquired, it may be determined that it is time to determine the necessity because the fuel cut has ended.
- the necessity of refreshing is determined based on the undershoot of the pump current Ip2.
- the determination may be made based on a value that can be equated with the current Ip2.
- the necessity of refreshing may be determined based on the behavior (at least one of undershoot and overshoot) of the NOx concentration [ppm] based on the pump current Ip2.
- the refresh processing in step S170 is the main pump control processing during refresh.
- the main pump control process during refresh should be included. Therefore, in step S170, one or more of the main pump control process during refresh, the auxiliary pump control process during refresh, and the measurement pump control process during refresh may be executed.
- the refresh process is not the main pump control process during refresh. and at least one of auxiliary pump control processing during refresh.
- the main pump control process during refresh, the auxiliary pump control process during refresh, and the measurement pump control process during refresh are all processes in which the target value is set higher than in normal times. It is sufficient that the processing is controlled so as to pump out more oxygen in the gas flow portion to be measured than in comparison.
- the control process at the time of refresh may be a process of performing constant voltage control of the pump cell without performing feedback control using the target value, or a process of performing constant current control of the pump cell.
- the CPU 92 controls the variable power supply 24 so that the pump voltage Vp0 becomes a predetermined constant voltage higher than the value during the normal main pump control process without feedback control. It may be processed.
- the refresh main pump control process may be a process in which the CPU 92 controls the variable power supply 24 so that the pump current Ip0 becomes a predetermined constant current higher than the value during the normal main pump control process.
- the execution timing of the refresh process is exemplified during the operation of the internal combustion engine other than when the fuel is cut.
- the execution timing is when the hybrid vehicle is running on electricity (when the engine is stopped) and when the exhaust gas is stationary (when exhaust gas remains around the sensor element 101). good too.
- the execution timing may be the timing at which it can be assumed that the gas to be measured is not in the atmosphere.
- the refresh process may be performed without determining whether or not it is time to execute, that is, whether or not the gas to be measured in the gas flow section to be measured can be considered to contain carbon. For example, when the sensor element 101 is performing the control routine of FIG.
- step S140 may be omitted.
- the refresh process is performed during fuel cut rather than during operation, and the undershoot and overshoot of the pump current Ip2 may not be reduced.
- it is determined in the next refresh necessity determination process that the refresh process is necessary, and the refresh process is executed again. can get.
- the NOx concentration cannot be measured correctly during the refresh process as described above, it is preferable to determine whether or not it is time to execute the refresh process in order to reduce such time as much as possible.
- the CPU 92 detects the start time of the fuel cut based on the fuel cut execution information and the time other than the fuel cut. good too.
- the pump current Ip0 flowing during the normal main pump control process is determined by the oxygen concentration of the gas to be measured flowing from the gas inlet 10 into the gas flow part to be measured (that is, the gas to be measured around the sensor element 101). Varies depending on When the gas to be measured is the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine, the oxygen concentration in the gas to be measured becomes approximately the same as the oxygen concentration in the atmosphere when the fuel is cut.
- the CPU 92 determines whether the pump current Ip0 flowing during the normal main pump control process is a value corresponding to a predetermined range of concentration (for example, 20 to 22%) that can be regarded as being the same as the oxygen concentration in the atmosphere. , it can be determined whether or not the fuel is being cut. Therefore, for example, the CPU 92 may determine in step S110 whether or not it is time to start fuel cut based on the pump current Ip0, and if it is time to start, it may be determined that it is time to determine whether or not fuel cut is necessary. In step S140, the CPU 92 may determine whether or not the fuel is being cut based on the pump current Ip0, and may determine that it is time to execute the refresh process if the fuel is not being cut.
- a predetermined range of concentration for example, 20 to 226%
- step S120 If it is determined in step S120 whether or not the refresh process is necessary based on the amount of overshoot of the pump current Ip2, the CPU 92 determines in step S110 whether or not the fuel cut is finished based on the pump current Ip0. If it is the end time, it may be determined that it is the necessity determination timing.
- fuel cut may be started during the refresh process in step S170.
- the refresh process may be terminated without waiting for the processing time (10 seconds in the above embodiment) to elapse.
- the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber has the first internal space 20 and the second internal space 40, but the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber is not limited to this, and for example the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber further has another internal space. Alternatively, one of the first internal space 20 and the second internal space 40 may be omitted.
- the adjustment pump cell has the main pump cell 21 and the auxiliary pump cell 50, but the adjustment pump cell is not limited to this, and for example, the adjustment pump cell may further include another pump cell. 21 and one of the auxiliary pump cell 50 may be omitted.
- the auxiliary pump cell 50 may be omitted when the oxygen concentration of the gas to be measured can be sufficiently lowered only by the main pump cell 21 .
- the CPU 92 may perform a process of controlling the main pump cell 21 so that the oxygen concentration in the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber (first internal space 20) reaches the target concentration, for example, as the normal adjustment pump control process. . More specifically, the target value V0* is predetermined, and the CPU 92 varies the voltage V0 so that it becomes the target value V0* (that is, so that the oxygen concentration in the first internal space 20 becomes the target concentration).
- the main pump cell 21 may be controlled by feedback-controlling the pump voltage Vp ⁇ b>0 of the power supply 24 .
- the outer pumping electrode 23 is a part of the main pumping cell 21 and is disposed outside the sensor element 101 at a portion in contact with the gas to be measured, and a part of the auxiliary pumping cell 50. and an outer auxiliary pump electrode disposed in a portion of the sensor element 101 that contacts the gas to be measured, and a part of the measuring pump cell 41 that is disposed in a portion of the sensor element 101 that contacts the gas to be measured.
- the provided outer measurement electrode it is not limited to this. Any one or more of the outer main pump electrode, the outer auxiliary pump electrode, and the outer measurement electrode may be provided outside the sensor element 101 separately from the outer pump electrode 23 .

- the measurement electrode 44 is arranged on the upper surface of the first solid electrolyte layer 4 inside the second internal cavity 40 .
- the measurement electrode 44 is covered with a fourth diffusion control portion 45 .
- the fourth diffusion control portion 45 is a film made of a ceramic porous material such as alumina (Al 2 O 3 ).
- the fourth diffusion rate-controlling part 45 plays a role of limiting the amount of NOx flowing into the measurement electrode 44, like the fourth diffusion rate-controlling part 60 of the above-described embodiment.
- the fourth diffusion rate-limiting part 45 also functions as a protective film for the measurement electrode 44 .
- a ceiling electrode portion 51 a of the auxiliary pump electrode 51 is formed up to just above the measurement electrode 44 . Even with the sensor element 201 having such a configuration, the NOx concentration can be detected based on, for example, the pump current Ip2 as in the above-described embodiment. In this case, the area around the measuring electrode 44 functions as a measuring chamber.
- the element body of the sensor element 101 is a laminate having a plurality of solid electrolyte layers (layers 1 to 6), but it is not limited to this.

- each electrode of sensor element 101 may be arranged on second solid electrolyte layer 6 .
- the reference gas introduction space 43 is provided in the spacer layer 5 instead of the first solid electrolyte layer 4
- the air introduction layer 48 is provided in the second solid electrolyte layer 4 instead of providing it between the first solid electrolyte layer 4 and the third substrate layer 3. It may be provided between the electrolyte layer 6 and the spacer layer 5 , and the reference electrode 42 may be provided behind the third internal space 61 and on the lower surface of the second solid electrolyte layer 6 .

- other control may be performed.
- the control device 90 may feedback-control the pump voltage Vp0 based on the pump current Ip1 so that the pump current Ip1 becomes the target current Ip1*.
- control device 90 omits acquisition of the voltage V0 from the oxygen partial pressure detection sensor cell 80 for main pump control and setting of the target value V0*, and directly controls the pump voltage Vp0 based on the pump current Ip1 ( Consequently, the pump current Ip0 may be controlled).
- the gas sensor 100 detects the NOx concentration as the specific gas concentration, but not limited to this, other oxide concentrations may be used as the specific gas concentration.
- the specific gas is an oxide
- oxygen is generated when the specific gas itself is reduced in the third internal space 61 as in the above-described embodiment.
- Specific gas concentration can be detected.
- the specific gas may be a non-oxide such as ammonia.
- the specific gas is a non-oxide
- the specific gas is converted into an oxide in the first internal space 20 (for example, if it is ammonia, it is oxidized and converted into NO), so that the oxide after conversion is Since oxygen is generated when reducing in the third internal space 61, the CPU 92 can acquire a detection value corresponding to this oxygen and detect the specific gas concentration.
- the gas sensor 100 can detect the specific gas concentration based on the oxygen generated in the third internal cavity 61 due to the specific gas. .

- FIG. 9 shows the results when the target value V0r* is changed to 700 mV, 800 mV, 900 mV, 1000 mV, and 1100 mV.
- the result when the target value V0r* is 1000 mV in FIG. 9 (the double-dot chain line graph in FIG. 9) is almost the same as the solid line graph in FIG. 6 where the target value V0r* is the same 1000 mV. .
- the larger the target value V0r* the more the difference .DELTA.US tends to approach 0% in a short period of time, confirming that the effect of refreshing the sensor element 101 is high.
- the target value V0r* should preferably exceed 700 mV, and more preferably be 800 mV or more.
