Abstract
There is provided a field sequential image display apparatus capable of reducing the occurrence of color break-up without causing luminance non-uniformity and color blur. An illumination means (17) has a first light-emitting element (18) for illuminating a liquid crystal display panel (15) with a first emission color and a second light-emitting element (19) for illuminating the liquid crystal display panel (15) with a second emission color. A control means (12) allows the illumination means (17) to emit light on a per-field basis. The control means (12) gradually increases the light-emission luminance of at least one of the first light-emitting element (18) and the second light-emitting element (19) in first predetermined time periods (Te, Tg, Tk, Tp) and gradually decreases the light-emission luminance of at least one of the first light-emitting element (18) and the second light-emitting element (19) in second predetermined time periods (Tf, Th, Tn, Ts).
