Abstract

The object is to provide: an organic electroluminescence (EL) element material having high luminous efficiency and a lowered driving voltage; and an organic EL element, an lighting system and a display device each of which comprises the organic EL element material. Specifically disclosed is an organic EL element which has multiple organic layers including a light-emitting layer and sandwiched between an anode and a cathode. In the organic EL element, at least one layer of the organic layers comprises a compound having a partial structure represented by the general formula (O) and a molecular weight of 700 or more. When a 25-nm-thick thin film of the compound is formed on a substrate and immersed in 1-butanol at 20˚C for 3 seconds, the film has a rate of reduction in absorbance of within 10% as measured at a wavelength which lies between 340 to 360 nm and at which the maximum absorbance is observed. At least one layer adjacent to the layer containing the compound is formed by a wet process.
