Abstract

　第１の位相差フィルム（２）と、第１の位相差フィルム（２）に対して積層された第２の位相差フィルム（３）とを備えた複合位相差板（１）であって、上記第１の位相差フィルム（２）は、ＴＮセル（４）において、液晶分子が、電圧印加時に、ハイブリッド配向していると近似できる領域が発生し、それによって生じるＴＮセル（４）の連続的な屈折率異方性の変化を補償するように、屈折率異方性が厚みの中で変化する特性を備え、上記第２の位相差フィルム（３）は、第１の位相差フィルム（２）によって補償し切れなかった残余の屈折率異方性を補償する屈折率異方性を備えている。これにより、ＴＮ方式の液晶表示装置のコントラストが、視野角によって低下する原因となる液晶層の屈折率異方性を、高精度に補償できる複合位相差板を提供する。
