- the mixture self-heated from 22 to 35 °C upon adding the sulfuric acid. After being stirred for several minutes, the mixture was treated with 140 g (0.518 mol) of potassium persulfate. The slurry was heated to reflux at 84 °C for 4.5 hours. The resulting orange slurry was filtered while still warm (50-65 °C) to remove a fine, white precipitate.
