Description
C. L. NEWTON.
VENDING DEVICE.
APPLIGATION HLBD AUG.'2. i910.
"75,87" Patented Nov. 15, 1910.
CHARLES L. NEWTON, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
@FF-ICE VENDING DEVICE.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES L. NEWTON, a citizen of the 'United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and and useful Improvements in Vending Devices, of which the following is a specification. i
My invention relates to vending devices.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, convenient, economical and efficient device for vending articles of merchandise or for selling orders therefor.
My inventionconsists in providing a card with a series of easily detachable portions each having a character printed or otherwise placed upon its visible side and each having a number printed or otherwise placed upon its reverse or concealed side, the number upon each detachable portion preferably being diflerent from the number on the other detachable portions, a fragile cover for said numbers, and a perforated back for said cover.
My invention also consists in certain details of construction and arrangement as herein set forth and claimed.
In the drawing, which serves to illustrate the construction and use of my invention: Figure 1 is a front view showing a portion of the device partly brokenaway to show the underlying parts. Fig. 2 is a view of part of the rear side of the front card or layer provided with the numbers.- Fig. v3 is a view showing the rear side of`the front layer covered with the fragile material. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the -device showing the fragile material covered with the perforated back, and showing one of the detachable portions partly punched out. Fig. 5 is a perspective view looking at the back side of the board of part of the device showing y one of the detachable portions andladjacent fragile covering punched out.
In the construction and arrangement of my vending device, I preferably take a cardl 1"of suitable dimensions and score, cut or otherwise partially sever a'series of portions 2 thereoffrom'vthe main body of the card, preferably inA the uniform manner illus.- trated in thel drawing, for the purpose of making said portions easily detachable. I provide the outer surface of said detachable portions with characters 3v which may be uniform or varied as desired, and the inner `or concealed side of each detachable por-'v Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 2, 1910.
Patented Nov. i5, i910. Serial No. 575,068.
tion is provided with a number or other designation 4 which may be printed or otherwise secured thereon. The rear or 4numbered side of said card is then covered with a sheet of fragile material 5 preferably of thin opaque colored paper which may be pasted thereto by glue, niucilage or other adhesive material as desired, but the paste should not be placed upon the'numbers.
y The device is provided with a back G having a series of perforations '7 adapted to register with the detachable portions 2 of the front card, vsaid back being pasted' to said front card to prevent access to the numbers and-to hold said fragile cover in position relatively to the front when the detachable portions are being removed. I also separate said characters 3 from each other by lines S and 9 extending transversely of each other forming rectangular spaces wit-hin which a 'name or representation l0 may be placed by printing or otherwise and having a blank 1 1 withinwhich a name may be written.
As illustrated, the characters 3 represent a base ball and the names l0 represent some of the players. In the use of this card each detachable portion 2 represents an order for a given quantity of merchandise of standard value. The detachable portion is purchased by the customer and may be detached by him or by the salesman by the use of a pencil, a punching device, or by using the thumb and finger. In this way it -may be punched through the perforation 7 in the back 6, breaking the fragile cover 5 and eX- posing the number (4) thereon, which -will entitle the purchaser to such additional merchandise asmay be advertised in addition to the'merchandise purchased.
.It will be noted that this construction permits vof the economical, convenient and ready printing of the names and characters upon the front side and the numbers upon the rear side of the card, so that there can be no mistake in the purchaser receiving the number which his order calls for. It
,also provides for the easy and convenient removal of the detachable portions to expose the concealed numbers upon the'rear side thereof.
The space 12 at the top of the card may be used 'for giving directions in the use of the card or for advertising.
I claim: Y
l. In device of the character described,
a front card having a series of detachable portions each having a number which represents a specified merchandise order, a fragile sheet adapted to cover said numbers, and a 5\back secured thereon having perforations adapted to register with said detachable portions, substantially as set .forth and for the purposes specified.
2. In a device of the character described, a card, a series of detachable portions therein, exposed characters on said detachable portions, concealed characters thereon, and scoring between said card and said detachable portions whereby said detachable portion is held in relation to said card to effectually conceal the number until said detachable portion is punched out of the card, substantially as set forth andfor the purposes specified.
3. In a device of the character-described, a card having a series of portions made detachable by scoring, a character on the exposed surface of each detachable portion, and a number upon the rear sde of each detachable portion, a fragile opaque sheet secured over said numbers, and a back havin perforations adapted to register with said detachable portions, secured to said front card for the purposes specified, substantially as set forth.
-L In a device of the character described, a front card l, a detachable portion 2 having characters 3 and numbers 4, opaque fragile material 5 adapted to cover said numbers, and a back 6 having perforations 7 adapted to register with said detachable portions 2, and means for securing said front 1, fragile material 5 and back 6 together, substantially as set forth and for the purposes specified.
