AUTOMATIC STEAM-VASHER.

Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, ROBERT E. JACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Visconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Automatic Steam-Washers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in automatic clothes washers, and it pertains to that class by which boiling water is caused to automatically flow from the bottom of a boiler, in which clothes are being boiled, through a chamber and duct to a point above and is dischargedy upon the upper side of the clothes, when it iiows back through the clothes of its own gravity to the bottom of the boiler and is thus caused to continuously circulate through the clothes until they are thoroughly cleansed.

The construction of my device is eX- plained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view and Fig. 2 is a top view thereof.

Like parts are referred to by the same reference figures in both views.

1, 1 are a pair of water chambers, which are preferably adjustably connected together by the clothes supporting screen 2, which screen is connected to the upper surface of the chambers by the bolts 3, 3, and hand nuts 4, 4. A pair of water ducts 5, 5, are connected with each of the chambers l through which the water is led from the lower to the upper side of the clothes. The upper ends of the ducts 5 are provided with adjustable elbows 6,6.

It will be understood that when the water in the boiler is heated to a certain temperature, it will be forced by the steam pressure in the chamber up through the pipes 5 and out through the elbows 6 upon the clothes.

The elbows 6, 6, may be inclined toward the right and left from time to time, whereby the stream of water will be uniformly distributed over the clothes as they are being boiled. It will also be understood that by loosening the hand nuts 4, the chambers l may be adjusted nearer to or farther from each other as may be required to fit boilers of different lengths, and that when so adjusted, they are securely retained in place by turning down the hand nuts.

8, 8, are washers, which are interposed between the hand nuts 4 and the bars 9 of the grate, whereby the grate is held in place between the upper surface of the chambers and the lower surface of the washer.

9 is a clothes boiler of ordinary construction.

The opposing ends of the chambers are provided with openings 10 through which the water enters the chambers preparatory to passing out through the discharge ducts.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In an automatic clothes washer of the described class, the combination of a wash boiler, two chambers open at their lower sides and provided with inlet water passages, vertical water ducts connected with the interior of and supported on said chambers, an adjustable discharge elbow supported on the upper ends of said ducts, and a clothes supporting grate adjustably connected at its respective ends with said chambers.
