APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 12, 19 04.

UNITED STATES Patented April 11, 1905.
GEORGE O. WRIGHT, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
SHOW-CASE BRACKET AND FIXTURE.
/ SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 786,935, dated April 11, 1905.
Application filed September 12, 1904:. Serial No. 224,218.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE C. WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States. residing at Oleveland, in'the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain newand useful 7 Improvements in Show-Case Brackets and Fixtures; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in show-case brackets and fixtures for supporting glass and other shelves in show-cases, and it is also adapted for use in holding supporting-rods in a horizontal position; and my invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation, partly in section, of a bracket and fixture embodying my improvements; and Fig. 2 is a top plan viewof the same, partly in section, on the line a a of Fig. 1.
In the embodiment of my invention the standard 1, which forms the vertical member of the fixture, is provided in its outer side with a vertical centrally-located groove 2 and provided in its inner or rear side with a similar but s'omewhat narrower and deeper groove 3. As here shown, the standard is made of wood and has its outer side covered with a sheet of metal, as at 4. I do not desire, however, to limit myself in this particular. Through the standard at'suitable distances apart are openings 5, which register and communicate with the grooves 2 3.
In connection with the standard I employ a vertically-adjustable bracket 6, which may be employed to support a glass or other suitable shelf and is provided with a plurality of openings 7 for the reception of supportingrods, which may be employed in lieu of the shelf. At the outer end of the bracket on its upper side is an upwardly-projecting stop shoulder or lug.8 to bear against the outer edge of a shelf and hold the latter on the bracket against lateral displacement therefrom. At the inner end of the bracket in its lower side is a countersink 9, with which communicates a screw-threaded opening 10. In the said opening is the screw-threaded portion of a stud 11. The said stud has an annular flange 12 of suitable size and shape to enter the countersink. The rear portion of the said stud projects beyond the said flange and is adapted arm 14 the groove 3, which is on the inner or rear side of the standard. The diameter of the flange of the stud is such as to enable the.
said flange to fit in the groove 2 in the front or outer side of the standard, and hence the hook and stud serve not only -in connectionwith the openings of the standard to detachably and adjustably connect the bracket to the standard, but also coact with the sides of .the groove'2 in the standard to hold the bracket in an upright position and prevent lateral inclination thereof with respect to-the standard. By adjusting the screw-stud to move the bracket angularly with respect to the standard the bracket may be disposed in a perfectly horizontal position in the event that the standard is not exactly perpendicular.
From the foregoing "description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.-
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination with a standard having grooves in its outer and inner sides, and transverse openings coincident and communicating with said grooves, a bracket having at its inner end a hook to extend through one of said In testimony whereof I have hereunto set openings and engage the inner groove, the my hand 1n presence of two subscriblng witsaid bracket being further provided at its in nesses. ner end With a screw-stud to enter another GEORGE C. \VRIGH'I. 5 opening of the standard and provided With a Witnesses:
flange to engage the groove in the outer side C. L. PAX'roN,
i CLAYTON G. Bmon.
of the standard, for the purpose set forth.
