IMPROVEMENT IN MUPFS.-
TO ALLWHOM IT MAY VCONGE-RN:
Be it` known that I, LOUIS BAUHOEFER, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an improved Mu'; rind I do hereby declare the following to be a. full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference-being' had tothe accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My improved muli' consists of two or more sheets of suitable material, cut, folded, and' stitched together, so as to form a. number of compartments, each of which is filled with cork, as fullydescribed hereafter, the muif thus constructed being warm, light, and durable.
In order to enable others to make my invention, I` will now 4proceed to describe the manner of carrying the same into effect, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a-part of this specification, and in whichi Fig-rel is a sectional view of a muif made of the improved fabric.
'Figure 2, a section on' the line 1 2, iig. 2, and
l Figure 3 a. sectional view, showing a modification.
Between two sheets, a a', of textile or other fabric, or leather, or other suitable material, is placed one or more layers, b, of cork, which may eitherbe granulated, as shown in figs. 1 and 2, or in sheets, as shown in iig. 3. The sheets a a are served along lines parallel to or crossing each other, at any suitable distance apart, so as to form a series of separate compartments, in each of which a portion of the cork is retained, so that excessive accumulation at any oneY point is prevented. The'slxeets, with the cork between them, are then cut and folded to any'shape necessary to form a mutt', tippet, or other article of .irearing apparel, which may be lined on the inside, and covered on the outside with fur, wooll'en fabric, or other appropriate material.
The lightness of the cork, and its superiority as anon-conductor of heat, render the articles made of the above-described fabric both lighter and warmer than those stuffed or padded in theusual manner.
If desired, the cork may bc confined in compartments which are directly between the outer sheet of fabric er fur' and the lining material, and although ordinary unprepared' cork may be used, I prefer tot employ that treated in the manner described inmy Letters Patent, dated the sixthsday of November, 1866.
I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters'Patent, as a new manufacture- A mut?, consisting of tivo or more sheets of suitable mat-erinh'cut, folded, .and stitched so as to form a number ofl compartments, each of which `contains a body of cork, as set'.` forth. l
In testimony whereof I have signed my nameto this specication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.v
LoUI'sl BAUHOEFER.
